"Atheists, prove to me that you have a brain" - ironic or what? (more inside)?

I have many time heard this "argument" from the religious, claiming essentially that since we can incontrovertibly prove nothing, we should be open to believe in anything.

The thing that they fail to realize is that the evidence in favor of me (or anyone else) having a brain is the same as the evidence against God existing, namely:

the fact that consciousness is not known to exist without a brain.

Ironic or what?

here's a picture I took yesterday when I was cleaning it out as I spilt some coffee in it.

It's amusing that they don't seem to realise that that it applies to all supernatural phenomena, all and every other god and spook you can dream up. For them to escape the charge of hypocrisy, they would have to accept the fact that these other gods may be real too.

All I'll say is "Noah's Ark". Anyone who believes that really happened exactly as it is portrayed in the Bible is ignoring reality. I'll lay it out for you: 1. At least 2 of every animal on the planet was put into a stationary boat. Think about how huge planet Earth is. Even though as some Christians claim the whole world was one landmass back then, it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to get all those animals together in one place. Even today using planes and ships it would be impossible. They had nothing. Think about it. They had to cover hundreds of thousands of miles all over the globe to get all those animals. 2. They needed to store fresh water and food on the ark to feed all those animals and themselves for a really long time. Think about it really hard. 3. After the waters have receded they had to take all those animals back to where they came from. Think about that really hard. 4. After a long time underwater every single plant on the planet was dead and it would take a long time for the whole ecosystem to recover especially with the animals and insects many plants require to propagate NOT being there for a long time. Anyone who still thinks the Noah story really happened must be either brainwashed or braindead.

well, its not even that we should be open to beleiv e anything, its that we shoudl be open to believe THEIR beleifs

which only makes their argument even more unbeleivable

we knwo we have a brain cos its studiable, measurable, and when it stops working so do we, and when we die, we can cut it out and look at it etc

no one has done that with any god or any religious claims

exactly, your last comment is exactly it

you cant exist and be alive as we are WITHOUT the brain

thts how we KNOW its there

is not so much ironic to me as it is just stupidity

    try telling them that tho

Because the fact that every person who has ever existed has had a brain isn't evidence enough. And let's not forget the terrible fact that without brains, we wouldn't even be able to reply to that statement in the first place.

And then these same people believe the scientific community is a pack of liars, while unquestioningly absorbing the absurdly fictional Bible.

I tell you, these logical fallacies keep getting less logical and more fallacy. (I'll be here all night.)

I could go have a few scans at the nearest hospital and show some pretty pictures of what my brain looks like.

It is possible to prove "what," but not necessarily always possible to prove "how." I can easily prove I have a brain, but it may be impossible for me to 100% prove how it works.

Brian scans of many people prove there are brains. The fact we are sitting here discusses this means we have brains. Is that enough evidence.

Not true. I've seen a picture of my brain. I have seen it flash colors as it works. I have also seen brain activity when someone has been speaking in tongues -- the tongues brain reacts the same as if the person has had a frontal lobotomy, which I find interesting.

Human brains known of via direct or indirect evidence: 6,000,000,000

God brains/intelligences known of via direct or indirect evidence: 0

  • If it goes down to it, one can actually crack open a skull to prove to them once and for that that human beings DO have a brain.

You can't apply the same ''if it goes down to it'' ultimatum on God, though, because it has already gotten down to it and still they are yet to do anything to prove His existence.
