After a server upgrade, website only displays in pre-update version. How do I fix this?
The details: three days ago the website (freethoughtblogs.com, if that matters) underwent a server upgrade. Since then, I basically see a three-days-ago, mid-upgrade-so-partially-disabled version of it.
The problem only exists on my computer: the website opens just fine on others.
I've tried opening it in three different browsers (FF, Chrome and IE) and the problem is the same in all three of them, so it's not browser-related.
Does anyone know how to go about fixing this?

A noun OR adjective will do. I'm really stumped.

3 AnswersWords & Wordplay10 years agoHow would knowing that God exists impede free will?
The Bible has a tradition of people knowing God and disobeying him, running from Eve to Jonah, with several false-god-worshipping Israelites in between.
So why do I keep hearing that if God revealed himself, that would impede free will?

In an experiment, 10 monkeys were placed in a closed cage with a bunch of bananas hanging from the ceiling. As soon as the monkeys tried to reach for the bananas, they were hosed down with cold water, so after a couple of attempts, they quit trying.
Later on, one of the monkeys was replaced with a newcomer. Right away, the newcomer jumped for the bananas, but the other monkeys attacked him and prevented him from reaching them.
Next, another monkey was replaced. The new monkey, once again, reached for the bananas, only to be stopped by the others, including the newcomer from the previous stage.
A few more stages down the line, the cage contained 10 monkeys who were never hosed down with cold water, but would aggressively try to stop any monkey from reaching for the bananas.
Why?
BECAUSE THAT'S THE WAY WE DO THINGS AROUND HERE.

6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade ago"Atheists, prove to me that you have a brain" - ironic or what? (more inside)?
I have many time heard this "argument" from the religious, claiming essentially that since we can incontrovertibly prove nothing, we should be open to believe in anything.
The thing that they fail to realize is that the evidence in favor of me (or anyone else) having a brain is the same as the evidence against God existing, namely:
the fact that consciousness is not known to exist without a brain.
Ironic or what?
18 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAtheists! Srsly! Are you an R&S literalist?
I think I just became an R&S literalist.
In this new spirit of literal interpretation of R&S, I have actually gotten up, stumbled to the fridge and poured myself a *drink*, after many a sinful occasion of just paying the holy *drink* empty lip service.
Now I can truly say I have the spirit *wink* in me.

1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality1 decade ago"Opiate of the masses": is this phrase misunderstood?
Karl Marx did use the phrase "religion is the opiate of the masses", but in his day, opium was mainly used not as a recreational drug, but as a painkiller for the sick. He claimed religion gives comfort to people who need it badly.
Here's the phrase in context:
"Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness. To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions."
Now atheists, I am sure few of you care about what Karl Marx wrote, but I do know that you wouldn't like to inadvertently be caught workin' in the quote mine.
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade ago"Evolutionists", consider radioactive decay for a moment?
Quote from Wikipedia on radiometric dating:
Radiometric dating is a technique used to date materials, usually based on a comparison between the observed abundance of a naturally occurring radioactive isotope and its decay products, using known decay rates.
It is the principal source of information about the absolute age of rocks and other geological features, including the age of the Earth itself, and can be used to date a wide range of natural and man-made materials. Together with stratigraphic principles, radiometric dating methods are used in geochronology to establish the geological time scale.
Now, to the actual question:
It's been over a 100 years since humanity learned to tell time by radiometric dating, based on the completely natural process of radioactive decay. Wouldn't it be fair to say that radioactive decay is... well... a watch without a watchmaker?
