AK-74U/Krinkov caliber choice?
So I'm thinking about building a Krinkov, but I'm not sure whether I should go with 5.45 or 7.62. I've ruled out 5.56 since the 8 inch barrel would more than likely kill any possibility of bullet fragmentation past 50 meters. Does anybody here know the effect of an 8 inch barrel on a 7.62 and a 5.45 round? Does the 5.45 round depend on muzzle velocity for terminal performance like the 5.56? I would assume so, but I know the 5.45 has no fragmentation properties so I'm not sure. My guess is that the 7.62 would suffer the least from a shortened barrel since the bullet has quite a bit of mass. Kind of like the .357 vs .44 snubby debate. Anybody have any difinitive answers or insight?

A true Krinkov would be chambered for 5.45 X 39mm.
For your sake, I hope you have all the necessary paperwork in order.

You better have a heluva compensator on it! Go with the 5.45. You will have more corrosion, muzzle blast, noise, federal issues, jams, and survivability in SHTF. Why not just get a full sized 7.62x39?

I think optimus prime would know!
But honestly I have never built a gun :(
And with the way things are going in the usa i may never have that experience.
I do know that there are forums where gun experts can discus this question with you.

I would suggest using 7.62 :)
When I play Jagged alliance most of my guns use that caliber unless it's a sniper rifle lol
EDIT: It's a custom AK they can be modded any way he freaking wants -_-
Also I don't think this is illegal unless it's automatic lol and depends on the state as well!
I'd also like to say tracer rounds and match of the 7.62 for added night time fun and the latter for further longer accurate shots

First off its going to be loud as hell in that short gun and hard to hold and aim as a pistol with a 30rd mag cause its a heavy pistol.
Many builders won't do short barrel ak's under like 12" cause of cycling issues with short pistons......at least with 7.62.
Bullet frag on 5.56????Never heard of it!
I would go with 5.45 if you must.....and you may want to fire one first to see if you like it...

YOU SAID:
I told myself I wouldn't say anything here, but I can't help myself. If you don't support us, its alright because we still fight for you and your freedom. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, and we can all agree to disagree, but if you get in my face and call me a baby killer and other BS like that, I'm going to beat the **** out of you. You can count on that.
WHAT? Do you HAVE a split personality? Even if I don't support you, you will still fight for me and my freedom, and I am entitled to my own opinion, but if I call you a baby killer you'll beat the **** of me? Yet you still say i'm entitled to my own opinion and freedom. What about freedom of speech? You support a murderous government but would beat someone up for saying something you don't like?
