Honda odyssey 2009 or Kia sorento 2009 to buy as family car.?

My husband wants to buy the Honda Odyssey and there is not question that it is a better car. But the Kia will reduce our car payments by 200 dollars a month. Please tell me the long term and major differences or between the cars. Also the Kia does have a 10 yr warranty. My husband can't make up his mind. He keeps asking me, But the only thing i know is that Honda is a better car but i don't want him to take on finical responsibility we can't afford. We have never bought a new car before and we have a 3 yr old and 9 month old so we need something bigger and dependable. Also ur input on buying a used Honda rather than a new Kia also, Any suggestion will help thanx in advance,

the Kia is good deal for a lot less money than the Honda.

the only thing that's not great is that unless you drive with a light foot it will not get great mpg. but the V6 power is nice to have.

I also suggest you take a look at the Kia Rondo it's an excellent vehicle and is available with 7 passenger seating.

the Honda is not that great when you consider you can get an alternative for $5k to $10,000 less.

Considering its new reliability is not much of a concern but the Odyssey will last plenty longer than the Kia will. Warranty is quite frankly not much of a concern. Kias are extremely unreliable which sort of negates the extremely long warranty. To be quite clear I'm not a fan of either car or manufacturer but the Odyssey is the better car. More room, more features, better quality and unlike most MPVs it's quite a decent drive as well.

Easy the odyssey. Make sure and buy it new. My mom just bought one and it's perfect. She's had it for over a year and has had no problems. The Kia might be cheaper but you will pay a price in the long term. The cheaper materials, will frustrate you on long road trips and the safety and reliability of kia is well..um...lets just say less then satisfactory to put it Nicely. So don't let "Americas best warranty" fool you the extra 200 dollars will actually save you in the long run. Good luck.

Your question is somewhat apples and oranges - the Sorrento is an SUV, the Odyssey is a minivan that has tons more room than the Sorrento. The Kia Sedona is a direct competitor to the Odyssey, and has gotten excellent reviews in the magazines.

One of the other posters mentioned the Kia Rondo - that has as much room as a Sorrento and is much cheaper (and better on gas). It's worth a look. If you want/need the room of the Odyssey, you will want to compare it with the Sedona, and skip the Sorrento, they are not that roomy and not great on gas either.

The Sedona comes in two sizes, the base model is shorter and therefore somewhat smaller inside than the LX or EX, but is still much roomier than the SUV's.

Holden is the most popular car followed by Ford in Australia with Japanese cars coming in third place. I have had a few Toyota Corolla's and they were very good on mileage compared to the heavy Holden's and Fords. No car these days are cheap to repair these days and spare parts may be a little costly in the end. Although make sure your new car has a long warranty and their are the end of range cars that could be going a little cheaper than the new models coming on stream. With cash you can bargain down and with your good looks that shouldn't be too difficult there mate. Glad to see you scored another job mate by the sounds of it so some people are picking up employment which is very good sign of the economy stabilising. So if your finances are in good shape and this new job looks promising then go for it mate.

My wife and I went new car shopping 2 months ago. We have 2 boys ages 14 and 12. We tried out a couple models from Honda, Toyota, Mazda, GM. We chose Honda but to be honest, never considered a Kia. We bought a Fit LX and absolutely love it. Tons of room great gas mileage ,high 40's per gallon. Put our 23 year old son's old mags from his Civic on it. Checked out used Fit prices before buying new, holding re-sale value as good or better than Toyota. Great little car, Sport model has a few more bells and whistles including paddle shifters but LX model has most and I used the price difference to pick up a few accessories. Nice car for a small family and tons of room. Take one our for a test drive before making your choice.

Have you thought about the Hyundai Santa Fe?

It is better looking, has a better quality ride than the Sorrento and you still get the 10 year warranty.

The Sorrento drives and feels more like a truck while the Sante Fe is car based.

In addition, the Santa Fe is also Front wheel drive (the Sorrento is RWD), so you really don't need All wheel drive unless you live in the mountains.

The Santa Fe is comparable in price to the Sorrento and is thousands less than the Odyssey.

It is possible to get the best of both worlds here.

The Kia is just as good as the Honda, with a better warranty, and cheaper to fix once the warranty runs out.....

Bad things about the Kia are .. the interior isn't quite as nice, with a lot of plastic....

Personally, I would want either.. my choice would be the Saturn Vue or Outlook...

The Honda actually drives very well. I am a mercedes guy but I drove my mom's odyssey all day today with no problems. Good handling, turning, etc, something you don't usually get from a minivan.

Your family won't outgrow an Odyssey. It has tons more room, will likely last longer, with better resale value, and I'm sure from what I've heard and researched lower insurance as well. With dual sliding doors, it's easier to load and unload children too.
