Can a washing machine leak water if it isnt being used?

I havent used my washer in a week but I have water leaking coming through the ceiling downstairs. Its coming out from under the washer but can the washer leak or is it a broken pipe? If its a pipe why would it break in the summer?

You have a leak. Cold weather is known to burst pipes, but I think you may have a leak do to corrosion, bad connection or rubber seals. Shut the water that goes to your washer and do a little research. Find where the leak is before you end up with huge repairs due to water damage or mold. Call a repair man if you have to.

    Good Luck

A washer could leak if not in use, I think.

The washer spins to get the water out, and it drains, but I don't think they ever drain completely.

I know that if I haven't used my washer, it starts to kind of smell mildewy. I think that means that some water is left in the bottom of the tub, somehow. In mine there are little holes for water to leave through, but there has to be something below that, some more tub.

so If you got a hole in the bottom of the wash tub, it could leak.

Or the hose to the drain or some pipe or other could corrode, the sealant could get old and crumble, or it could get bumped loose somehow. I'd get a large person to help me tip it over part way so I could look underneath for moisture. If you move it around, move its spot, it may have to be rebalanced. They are balanced by adjusting the little foot thingies on the corner of the bottom. Those doodads are screwed in to the washer base and you tip it up and screw them up or down to balance the washer.

Shut the water valve, if it's still leaking it's a broken pipe in the wall. Also check if the hoses in back of the washer are on tightly or if the leak is coming from a crack in the hose.

first move your washer out to see if the lines to the washer is leaking if so tighten up if still leaking replace the rubber seal in it. if you see water on the floor from underneath it could be a number of things leaking call a the maytag repair man hes not to busy. to address if its a leaking pipe, corrosion can eat at galvanized pipes anytime of the year. good luck sounds like you got some work ahead of you

Maybe the hose in the back of the washer is loose.

yes, it can if it's a manual one

because the manual ones have to have a water suply pipe connected to them all the time and there is a risk of leakage because the pipe might break or there is too much preasure for the pipe to handle and is causing a leakage.

    hope it helps
