I'm not a huge fan of home schooling, although some parents do very well and their kids excel far beyond many public school kids. If parents make efforts to broaden their children's range of experiences, then great. But parents should not have to pass tests to qualify for home schooling. The emphasis should be on testing the kids to make sure they are progressing.

Homeschooling is unconventional, and parents should not be forced to conform to the same standards as a public school teacher. In many cases the parents standards are much higher-- but different-- because they have a direct interest in the success of their children. I went to public schools, and I wish I had a dollar for every teacher that didn't even know my name on the last day of school-- or just didn't care. Maybe public school teachers should have to meet a much higher standard before they ever think about testing homeschoolers. Who is going to write a test to qualify homeschoolers? The same people who qualify these teachers? It's sad, but there are kids who make it all the way through public school-- never knowing how to read. If schools could meet a higher standard to start with, a lot of people may consider sending their kids there.

No, homeschooling mom and dad do not ought to bypass a instructor competency attempt, neither do public college instructors. maximum homeschooling mom and dad went by way of public college themselves, frequently by way of 12th grade. for the reason that public college is so astounding, all homeschooling mom and dad are gifted in all common subjects, alongside with a number of optionally available subjects. a lot of those mom and dad have additionally performed some type of faculty or vocational college. as an occasion, i actual finished severe college, and alter into the valedictorian of my type. In seventh grade, I did an IQ attempt which confirmed that i replace right into a genius (IQ a hundred and sixty). Then I went to college and have been given a BS degree in biochemistry, then vocational college for scientific Lab Technician.

I was told that you did have to pass exams to remain in the home schooling programs.

Personally, I think school is much more about learning social skills, not just book knowledge. That one thing is so important that it could be the difference between a shut in later in life, or a doctor later in life.

Yes. But I'm against home schooling at all. A great public school socializes the children and works to even out social differences between everyone. Bill Gates daughter could go to school with Joe the Plumber's son and have the same opportunities. Wouldn't that be great? =)

    No.

Parents should pass a test to be parents.

Anyone who would home school their children should fail.

Of course, so would 98% of the population.

Does the phrase "thank god" sound disingenuous coming from me?

Source(s): EDIT: Home schooled kids grow up to be ignorant f*cktards, just like their parents. Do your child a favor and give him a real education, so that he can have a chance in life. If you don't like the school system, move to a different neighborhood. Jesus christ, what is wrong with these people? It's no wonder our world is so screwed up. Nobody wants to give their kid a chance. They just want to keep them home and teach them about imaginary gods. Let's just keep them ignorant and fearful, like good little slaves. Pathetic. My fiance's children go to the only school district in the state which receives exemplary ratings across the board every year. They are both on the honor roll. His son is a division one football recruit. Education was always of the utmost importance in their lives. They will both grow up to be successful, well educated people, because they were given a chance. Homeschoolers, what are YOUR kids going to grow up to be? I hear they're taking applications at the local McDonald's...

When home-schooled children pass their test taken for a diploma it is the home schooling parents success as well.

The test always tells on everybody involved, even inside the schools.

    thanks

Most states have very strict guidelines for home schooling.

But on a side note: if a parent was "uneducated" I wonder how many are actually attempting home school. Interesting point.

No. I see that as an unwarranted intrusion into family and home life. Although the state should perhaps check in every now and then to make sure the kid is being educated.

Home-schoolers have to submit evidence that their children are on grade level in order to be allowed to continue to home-school. As long as the kids are making adequate yearly progress, there should be no problems. Administering a test to parents would be costly and is unnecessary.
