Need help with light bulb/fixture problem.?

I have a problem with one of my light fixtures. Every three or so months, the light in it is blown out by it. I know it isn't the lights since they usually last a couple of years or so in my other rooms that have the same type of fixture.

What I need to know is could it be something other than the fixture, like the wiring, or is it definitely the fixture. If it is the fixture I could just replace it, but if it is a wiring problem I will need to call someone.

A number of things can cause an incandescent light bulb to fail. Before you start troubleshooting, please consider the hours of operation of the light before you start changing fixtures. Does this light stay on most of the time? Lights in a heavy traffic area can see as much as 10 times the hours of operation as other lights in the same amount of time. If this is not the case, then here are some things to check for.

    1) Good connections - With the bulb removed, use a flashlight to look into the socket and see if the connections are discolored or show signs of arcing. If it does, then you may indeed what to change the fixture.

    2) Vibration - Another source of bulb failure is external vibration from such things as a ceiling fan or from kids jumping on floors in upper rooms.

    3) Voltage surges - Resulting from other appliances on the circuit. If this is the case you should be able to see the lights dim or brighten whenever other large appliances come on.

    Hope this helps.

It won't be a problem with the wiring since it's the same service throughout your house. The fixture is just a switch that turns the power on and off, so that's not it. I would guess it may be that you use this fixture more than the others. Light bulbs burn out almost always when they are turned on. You'll never see one burn out while it's on.The surge of current blows them out after many on-off cycles have weakened the filament. Think about how often you use this one compared to others in your home.
