How do I increase the yield of my garden beans?

Last year I tried growing beans in my garden but couldn't get any kind of good yield. What are some things I could do to increase the yield from each plant?

are you using nitrogen fixing bacteria on your seed? its needed for beans to take nitrogen fertilization from the air...should be available from your seedsman or any garden center...

if you havent used it, it should double or triple your current yields

First start with a well tilled and fine planting bed. You can plant the beans about 3-4 seeds per food. Make sure to use high quality beans seeds that have genetic potential to give good yields. You probably do not have much choice of cultivars to use however. Be sure to use some sort of fertilizer. You can use any type of miracle grow or granular fertilizer, or if you want to go organic you can used compost. Insects and other fungal pests can also reduce yields, but they are probably not of major importants. If you find that you have significant insect problems (greater than 25% defoliation), you can go to the hardware and pick up an insecticide labeled for snap beans. Water is also very important to crops. Anytime you see wilted leaves photosynthesis has slowed down and you are loosing potential yield.
