My Yorkie has diarrhea!!! help plz!!!?

i have a 4 month old male yorkie

since we got him we had him potty trained really well until few days ago it seemed like he prefered to pee/poo outside in our yard

when he goes outside we let him out there for quite a while so he could play around and we noticed he's been eating alot of grass

and now he's having diarrhea and i don't think he can control it cause like wherever he sits there is this liquidy thing on the floor

and whenever i am near him i can hear his stomach growling sort of and the liquid that comes out is like red but i don't think it's exactly blood.. is it normal that dogs have diarrhea after eating grass and should i stop him from eating grass AND should i bring him to the vet or would it be over by sometime???!!

THX!!

Dogs eat grass to settle an upset stomach. I doubt the grass is giving him the diarrhea.

First, is he drinking water? He can dehydrate very quickly, so keep an eye on that. Press on his gums lightly to see if the colour fades and comes back quickly. If his gums are pale and the colour doesn't come back quickly when pressed, you need to take him in to an emergency clinic asap.

Has he gotten into something he shouldn't have recently? Garbage, food, etc?

Have you changed his food recently or introduced something new to his diet?

If nothing has changed, you should see your vet as soon as you can, like tomorrow morning, and have them run some tests and check him thoroughly.

Have you changed his food or given him something out of the norm? Changing the food without doing it over a 4 to 5 day period can cause diarrhea. Be careful cause since he is so small he can get sick really easily. You can try giving 1/4 of pepto up to 3 times a day but if it doesn't work he needs something stronger that only a vet can give you. Do not let this go on, he could really get sick and possible die. Grass normally makes a dog throw up. For some reason they eat thinking it will make them feel better but it doesn't. Keep a very close eye on him. DO NOT GIVE PUMPKIN. I work for a vet (19 years now) and we recommend pumpkin for dogs and cats that are constipated.

Bring him to the vet. 4 month old puppies can go downhill very fast especially with diarrhea. Only the vet can know for sure that it isn't blood.

Normally, eating grass allows the dog to empty their stomachs and anything bad that might be in there - but usually they would throw up.

I know this dog, a small pom-mix, who, as soon as we got her, pooped very small diarrhea-ish poop constantly and we discovered that she had worms. Perhaps get him checked out for worms, and I definitely advise bringing him to the vet.

Yorkies are notorious for having sensitive digestive systems.

When the stool gets jelly like and bloody, there may be a need for antibiotics(metro. usually is prescribed)

Today we just started a diet to calm down a very compromised animal with colitis.

    Cooked rice

cooked veggies(geeen beans & yellow squash)

pumpkin or canned sweet yams (drained of any syrup & sweets)

This seems to help bind and calm down the system.

Our yorkies also can upset easily.Boiled chicken or ground beef(to remove fat/oils)

    rice

    pumpkin once again

    Hope this helps your pooch

Consider offering pedialite to replenish electrolytes as well.

Source(s): call your vet on the pumpkin. One clinic according to the post says no & ours gave a heads up.

Take him to the vet. He is too young and with diarrhea he will dehydrate. And if they is red or pink in his stool or urine can mean trouble. When you take him to the vet take a stool sample with you for him to check.

    Call your vet Right Now!!!

That puppy is too small to have diarrhea for long; he'll dehydrate very quickly.
