I have been unemployed a while. Where can I further my career...?
..in IT?
It's official- recruitment agencies will NOT put a cv forward for someone who has been out of work more than a month. How do I get back into the job market if nobody wants me?
And don't give me that crap about voluntary work - like working in a charity shop is going to help my application in the computer industry. I don't think so.
I imagine the person giving the thumbs down is the same one who thinks I have a baaaaad attitude. Wasn't me.

Why wont they? Thats what they're for helping people get a job.
If they don't though, maybe do a course for another job?

What area of IT do you specialise in?
Freelance?
Advertise yourself for repairs - upgrades - networking etc.
Approach schools - nhs - supermarkets - etc you know areas that are unscathed by the recession. You might find an opening - your cv might get them thinking of a position they could create for you?
look at different industries
Consider a change of direction? Recession means a level playing ground so by the time you are qualified the recession will just be starting to go?
loads of options - dont let the agencies get you down - they do nothing but lie anyway

Go back to school and get as many certifications as you can.
To hell with voluntary work unless it's something you feel strongly about and think of learning an extra foreign language. Think of industries outside of the usual suspects where IT people are in demand.
Before the gap in employment gets too long, go back to school. And you may need to think long and hard if you want to remain in the IT industry or change careers. You need to make yourself more adaptive to change.

It's not official, it's bullshit: where are you based, Mars?
If you're adamant that agencies won't take you on after 31 days' unemployment, then massage your CV to say you've been doing something constructive during those 31 days.
Like taking a close look at your arrogance and flippant attitude while asking people to Help you.
Good luck.

yeah ive been out of work since october, lol i just used this spare time to go back to college and finish up. im about 2 or 3 semesters away from getting an associates in computer sciences with a database emphasis to be a Database Administrator.. the best thing you can do to further yourself is get a degree or enhance your degree with certifications and such. it makes you look much better than others with the same degree without certs. thats my plan ;)

Start your own company. I'm sure there's something you're interested in that's marketable. And it's not very hard at all [depending on what country you're in].
But if you don't want that, go back to University or get some certification, that's always useful.

Sounds like you dont really want a job....why wait for a head hunter to get you a job? Go look and find one yourself.
Being out of work a month is not all that long. I dont think most head hunters are that organized to keep track of how long everyone has been out of work.
Post on Monster...I get a call about once a month.

i think at first it's better to find a job as it technician... they are needed and are paid quite good... then you can advance slowly by promotions or finding better wage jobs etc....
