  • help with a collectible model village?

I have a 'Post Office' from a model village - it came as a set with paints to paint the plaster model yourself, and if you collected the other pieces it fitted together to make a complete village including the road and village green. They fitted together like a jigsaw almost. But I can't remember the name - can anyone supply the name?

PS I know it is not Lilliput lane, because Lilliput Lane pieces are already painted, and Lilliput Lane bases are relatively small. Mine are about 9 inches across on the base.

  • Playing chess with the devil? Help me find the story please?

I remember a tale about a chess grandmaster playing a game for high stakes, probably 'all he owns' and part way through he comes to realise he is playing against the Devil.

This is not about the painting showing Faust, this is a different tale.

In this tale the chess master plays on, racking his brains for a way out. He wins by challenging the Devil to display his powers - by turning the king to gold with a touch - and under the rules of chess the Devil is forced to move that piece, thereby losing the game.

Is there a link to this tale online please?

When you provide the link please also give additional keywords that will help me confirm.

    Thank you !

  • Is 150 gm a day enough for a dalmation?

14 year old female dalmation, previously I fed her twice a day. Now on dried dog food 150gm = 5 ounces once a day, I don't know what make of dog food. Is this enough? Dog has lost a LOT of weight on the back quarters.

  • What is the meaning if you see an egret (white heron)?

..or two together? I saw them in January -one the first day, then the next day two together- but haven't seen them since. They have been on my mind today.

  • I have been unemployed a while. Where can I further my career...?

    ..in IT?

It's official- recruitment agencies will NOT put a cv forward for someone who has been out of work more than a month. How do I get back into the job market if nobody wants me?

And don't give me that crap about voluntary work - like working in a charity shop is going to help my application in the computer industry. I don't think so.

  • Agency have re-advertised a job I want?

Computer Recruiter in Cardiff had a vacancy last week and I applied- only to be told that she had plenty of other applicants who had only just been made redundant and she couldn't possibly consider me for it.

(Even though I am a perfect match for the job)

A week later, she advertises the same post again. How mean is that?

She is sitting on a job I could do and won't even think about me. How can I get her to change her mind- or find out why she is really being so difficult?

  • I just got back from a job interview but it wasn't an interview...?

...it was an application test! I started getting suspicious when someone turned up at reception for the same job and their interview time was the same as mine- odd, I thought. We were both in suits. By the time someone came to collect us there were 8 altogether - and some of them dressed far too casual for a formal interview- so half of us knew in advance there was a test.

Should I have issues with this?

And do I send a thank you note for inviting me, as I would after an actual interview. I can hardly thank them for taking the time to see me.

  • Is Business Analyst similar to Systems Analyst?

I am being put forward for a 'Business Analyst /Data Analyst role'. I need to rejig my cv (or bits of it) to fit the Business Analyst terminology and buzz words.

I think of myself as an analyst programmer, and my cv is written along those lines. But my roles have always included systems analysis - and Wikipedia says that systems analyst is an alternative title for the business analyst role.

What are appropriate phrases -or buzzwords- for a Business Analyst cv -that a systems analyst might use?

  • How to save the bees?

I keep reading about loss of bee hives (UK, and US 70% loss) and am wondering how to improve their chances of survival.

How come no-one has suggested stopping sales of honey? At the moment wherever bees are kept they are robbed of their honey, and the honey is replaced by a nutritionally inferior sugar solution.

If we let them keep their honey, would more bees survive? We do have other sources of sweet stuff for our tea! We can surely live without honey, but we cannot survive without bees.

  • Career Break to raise children?

During my acrimious divorce I took 3 years off to make a fresh start with my young children. (It was either give up full time working, or keep the job and lose custody to my ex). How do I show this on the application form which insists all gaps must be accounted for?

It has so far managed to be gender-free, and I would prefer to go along with this. If I put 'Homemaker' they will know I am female (=bin)

Could I reasonably put 'Family Business'?
