should I take a urine test?
THE JOB - URINE TEST
(Whoever wrote this one deserves a HUGE pat on the back!)
Like a lot of folks in this state, I have a job. I work,
they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes
my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck, I am
required to pass a random urine test with which I have no
problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution
of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine
test. So here is my Question.
Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a
welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for
them?
Please understand, I have no problem with helping people
get back on their feet. I do, on the other hand, have a
problem with helping someone sitting on their rump--doing
drugs, while I work. . . . Can you imagine how much money
the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to
get a public assistance check?
I guess we could title that program, 'Urine or
You're Out'.
Something has to change in this country -- and soon!!!!!!!
Happy Hump Day....smile at someone today, they will think what was that for.. lol just because, and they might even smile back! :)

Working in pharmacy for 20 years, I have seen so much abuse of the welfare system. They alter the date or quantity on an Rx (felony), so we call welfare to report it. They do nothing! We started pee testing people that were getting large amounts of narcotics, approx 40% of those people tested had NO narcotics show up. Must be selling them $5.00 per tablet, depending on the drug. The above price is the going rate for a Vicodin! Call the state again to flag them. Nothing! They just find another Dr. to get the drugs prescribed. I got so mad, I started calling all the pharmacies in the area, and put them on alert that they failed their pee test with us, so when they came in with the new Rx from a new Dr. the Pharmacist could call the Dr.s office and give them our number. Fast forward........I am out of work for 8 months, trying to live on 1/2 of my husbands paycheck, because he has missed so much work due to the blood clot. I call to see if we are eligible for any kind of assistance..........Nothing! We have no food in the house, and $1.43 in the bank and no money to pay our $200/month medication bill. The welfare "lifers" have the system figured out! And yes, they have brand new clothes, new cars etc, and why? Because they don't have to pay for anything! I think that in order to qualify for welfare, you should have to have a job! I don't care if it is Burger King. We need to quit giving people a free ride. They don't want to work at the low paying jobs (Oregon's minimum wage is $8.40 hr) because you can't live on it. We just need to subsidize, not support! All other state's have maximums, not Oregon, so they all come here from Wash, Calif after they get cut off in those states! After seeing this for 20 years, I have written congressmen etc. and they did use some of my suggestions. What gets my blood pressure up the most is they will continue to get it, even after being convicted of a felony involving tampering with a Rx, and in 23 years of marriage, we needed some help once, just some food until I got a SSDI check, and according to our last years taxes, we make too much! How many people have lost their jobs and insurance since last year? Things do need to change and NOW! Time for me to start calling those that can make the changes! Urine or You're Out!

Totally agree!
Eli, I'm not sure what streets you see, but there are a lof of homeless people / families out there. The reason people like to single out welfare is due to the fact that it seems the people collecting either don't need it or misuse it. Have you ever been behind someone using a link card? How bad do they need those doritos? I don't mind helping, but I'm not interested in helping anyone waste my tax dollars.
Sheb,
When I smiled at a woman this morning I got a dirty look and thought I was going to get slapped! She must have been reading my mind!

54 year old woman had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. While on the operating table she had a near death experience.
Seeing God she asked 'Is my time up?'
God said, 'No, you have another 43 years, 2 months and 8 days to live.'
Upon recovery, the woman decided to stay in the hospital and have a face-lift, liposuction, breast implants and a tummy tuck.
She even had someone come in and change her hair color and brighten her teeth!
Since she had so much more time to live, she figured she might as well make the most of it.
After her last operation, she was released from the hospital.
While crossing the street on her way home, she was killed by an ambulance.
Arriving in front of God, she demanded, 'I thought you said I had another 43 years? Why didn't you pull me from out of the path of the ambulance?'
(You'll love this)
- God replied: 'I didn't recognize you.'

I agree totally.. I have to pass a urine test to get a job, or even have to pass one to keep a job.
They should make it mandatory for Government assistance of ANY kind..
They should have thought of this 20 yrs ago.
Maybe we wouldn't be in such a mess that we are.

Great point, I could not agree more. Some states make it appealing for them to sit home. I know a guy that is on welfare that wears a Rolex and drives a Cadillac Makes you wonder!!!.

I understand why taxes are so wildly unpopular especially in this country; the government can be extremely inefficient and wasteful. What I don't understand is why people who hate taxes are so focused on singling out welfare, which combined with unemployment made up less than 2% of the federal spending in 2008. The stereo typical welfare abuser who sits at home getting drugged up and cashing checks receives such a small portion of your taxes that it's probably less in one year than what you would consider giving to a homeless person standing on a street corner. Most people on welfare don't abuse it and are motivated to get off as soon as they are able. Welfare insures that people who fall on hard times don't end up on the streets. I for one am happy to contribute less than 2% of my taxes to insure that the streets aren't littered with starving families as they are in other parts of the world.
Clarification: welfare, unemployment, and other social services made up almost 12% of spending of which welfare checks made up 33%. So 4% of your taxes go to making these payments.
Chillyone: I've also seen people using their link cards to pay for diapers and baby formula. I hate to make a point for government spending but it seems that time would be better spent trying to cut larger fat from the budget than Doritos. Pun intended.

Wow, i never thought about it, but it really does make sense. But since it is so sensible, it will never happen. I do not helping either, but you can count on some group coming along and saying it is unfair for them to be tested!
Thanks for the good idea that will never see the light of day. Too bad.

Ouch. scathing. But good point. If you want social welfare then you have to be socially acceptable. Why should taxpayers subsidize substance abuse?
for that matter, if one wants welfare, not only should they take a urine test, but they should also have to give a blood alcohol test. I wanna know if they're a lush, too!
