How should I feed peas to my goldfish?

My goldfish is having some problems floating tail up on the surface and I was advised to feed him some peas to help alleviate any problems that may be causing him to do this. I'm glad that I can help him, but I have no idea how to go about feeding him peas.

He is a black moor about 7 inches long and 2 inches wide. How many peas should I feed him? How should I prepare the peas? I have either frozen peas or dried split peas to work with. How long should I feed him these? Should I feed him his regular pellets with them? If not, when should I resume his regular feeding?

Please, as you can tell, I'm new to this and could use any help I can get. I'm sure he'd appreciate too :)

We have been through this many times with our fish. Thaw some frozen peas and "squish" the pulp out of the shells. Mash up well and place in tank. If he is having problems getting to the bottom to feed, you may need to place the fish in a different, more shallow container with some of the tank water so he can feed. You can keep feeding him his regular pellets too, but he will probably not eat as much while sick. You will also have to clean the filter and change the water more often when feeding peas.

Our black moor never recovered from his floating problem and developed a bloated area that actually moved from time to time. Poor thing lived upside down for almost a year. You could tell he felt better after the peas though, always more energetic.

Cook the frozen peas and at least remove the skins, that much everyone seems to agree on (for swim bladder issues, right? I had to look this up for my goldfish recently) and some advise mushing up the peas even further. I'd say skip his regular pellets so he'll eat more of the peas. Goldfish can go without eating anything for a few days straight so he won't starve. Aim for feeding him about the same volume of food as flakes/pellets.

BTW, has he been on pellets long? I read that swim bladder issues can come from feeding pellets, which don't get soaked through as quickly. Our fish got sick a couple of weeks after we switched...

i think you should thaw out the frozen peas, and if he can't reach the bottom, put the peas on a spoon and keep it at the top until he eats them.. my fish had this problem last year..

chew the pees in your mouth and spit them into the tank. Mother birds do that for their young
