Has anyone got to try the new Ruger SR-556?

Saw it on Ruger's sight.Looks like a cross between a Sig 556 and an AR-15.

I saw it in person at their NRA convention. I could say I was impressed in the difference but I wasn't really impressed, but there were more ar's there than people it seemed. They will sell the whole rifle, no parts, no kits, no just uppers. And the price will have to go down to. I have talked to 2 people there that tried it mostly to get it to malfunction. Neither of them could get it to fail. And this is things you do to AK's like throw them in the mud and pour sand and dirt in the chamber and down the barrel. Things that would cripple a regular ar.

Looks like a good gun, but why does a gas piston AR type gun cost $2000? If I wanted a gas piston gun, I would go with the $900 Mini-14 or an $800 AK.

EDIT: Yeah I know $900 is a lot for a Mini. I just went with the MSRP on the Ruger website and it was close to $900. Really steep for a ranch rifle. But paying close to $2000 for that new Ruger is crazy IMO. Probably makes more sense to get an SKS if one wants a gas piston carbine.

    I'd opt for a Sig 556.

And to eddy.. 900 dollar mini 14's? Whaaaa??

I wouldn't pay over 350 for those piles.

I've been wondering when and whether Ruger would jump on the AR platform bandwagon. I wonder which magazines it takes, AR-15 style or something proprietary?

The reviews sounds good but it's a little pricey. The company also rubbed a lot of gun owners the wrong way back in the day. So it could be a while before we start seeing these showing up at our local gun range.

This and the scar are similar in the way the gas system works.....

No more fouling of the bolt from hot gases ...and the bolt and receiver stays cool because the gas is vented up under the hand guard in a way that does not affect shooter......

Saw this thing on full auto for 300rds and the bolt could be taken out and put in your hand.........impressed.....but,not 1600-1700.00 worth.
