Hawthorn is the worst raining Premier since…?
Hawthorn Supporter here....
At the beginning of the Season I had the Hawks finishing between 6-10 I was hoping they would make the 8 but was not 100%.
What I have seen thus far was worse then I could have ever imagined, and I really can not think of a team which has played worst in the past 20 years then the Hawks have after winning a Premiership, I do not see them winning more then 2-3 games (At best) for the rest of the season so I am now 100% they will miss the 8.
So my Question is there a team in history, which has done worst then the Hawks since winning a Premiership…
So you can answer the question like this…
The Hawks are the worst since… Because…
Cheers.
Glorin...
You are calling me a goat? I supported the club when it finished in the bottom 4, and did so proudly. What I do not like is that at all year the club (even now) is talking about the top 4? Seems to me they are living in a dream, and the sooner the snap out of it the sooner they will play good football. All I expected this year was to sit down and watch a few good games, and really I have not seen one. (Carlton V Hawks left a bad taste in my mouth as Fav could have won it and missed did not feel like a real win)

I did have them that low… My thinking was that like the bombers of 93 a young team like the Hawks would not realise how hard it is to get there and that it is even harder to stay there. I figured we would be very flat, but I thought it would be more of being unpredictable, you know losing against bottom 4 teams and winning against top 4 teams…
All…
Thanks to all your comments I had forgotten about Adelaide in 99 as they did win 2 in a row.

The Hawks are the worst since the Adelaide Crows of 1999, because they finished 13th on the ladder with 8 wins, 14 losses, after winning back-to-back premierships in 1997-1998. During 1999, the Crows also suffered a 76 point home loss to the Kangas, which was the second worst home loss in Adelaide's club history.
The Crows of 1999 are said to have earned the dubious honour of having the worst Premiership Hangover of any club.
Source(s): Injuries messed the Crows up big time during that year. EDIT: Yeah, I think The Real Enforcer and I are on the same boat. - ayelbeeLv 41 decade ago
Actually I dont believe they are the worst reigning premiers ever.
Many teams who win the grand final go on to the following year flat and this is what has happened again here.
Dont look at teams like Brisbane who did 3 in a row. Remember that they had added help with their salary cap and managed to keep their side together for those years.
Essendon lost a few after 2000, still did sort of okay in 01 but look where we ended up after that.
The other fact that you need to realise is that Hawthorn were a good side but they literally 'fluked' that win. Geelong were the best team of the year and they just didnt put it all together on the one day that mattered the most. Proof is that they are still riding high this season but you have to wonder how long they can continue.
Teams also lose players through retirement or injury and thats happened as well to the hawks. There are so many players from last year missing at the moment due to injury, you cant take them out and expect to play the same way, doesnt work like that.
They will come back in the future...I wouldnt lose too much sleep over it.

At the start of the season the excuse of a premiership hangover could be said, but a loss to the fired up west coast eagles really told the story of their season 2009. Last night, they made so many skill errors which the eagles capatalized on at every opportunity, one example being where mark lecras snapped/kicked a goal because the handball missed the target from the hawthorn player.
Mitchel got 40 touches, Roughead & Franklin kicked 9 between them - but what happened? They didnt play as a team.

At the beginning of the season you had the hawks finishing 6-10 ? are u serious? U go for Hawthorn.. they won the premiership last year and u didnt believe they were certainties for the 8?
If what you said is true then your a pretty good predictor! because most people (like me) would have had them top 2- top 4 easily.

You are a goat. The team you say you support won the premiership last year and all you wanted to do from the start was down grade such an effort.
The side may not be doing as well as it did last year, but they still won last year, and asking a question like this only suggests that you are not a supporter of the club because as the word suggests you should support your club through all they go through.
So what if they don't make the finals this year. They would have still won as many premierships as geelong in the last 20 years!!
Why don't you go and support collingwood, goat!

to be brutally honest st kilda and bulldogs...one premiership in over a hundred years... that doesn't say much at all...honestly though i would have never seen they way they both played after the first and only premiership...so they are the worst being never ever since being able to back it up....admittedly Adelaide's loss in 99 is bad but not as bad 1 premiership ever....

Well everyone has given you the answer. I don't think they'll make the finals this year, i'm afraid. They'll win one from the next four and possibly 4 or 5 for the rest of the year.

Adelaide failed to make the finals for a couple of years after their back to back premierships.
