Well, if you want to locate it, try this:

Click start > run and type: cmd followed by clicking on ok button. This would open up your command prompt. If you know the same of your server (dbserver) and the domain name of your organization (organizationname.net, type this at the command prompt: tracert dbserver.organizationname.net and press the enter/return key. If you don't have a domain name for your organization, just use the server's hostname or IP address:

    tracert servername

    tracert 83.130.55.66

This will start a trace of your server and would return you with a list of network hosts between you and the server. In this list, your server name would bounce back at the end with its IP address in brackets. Copy this IP address and then use this utility to find its physical location: http://www.geobytes.com/ipLocator.htm

If this utility fails to give you a location, try looking up the IP address of the host above your server (2nd last host) in your trace results. Step back one by one and in case if you don't find anything:

Your server is within the same location as where you work. Probably in a server rack within the IT team's office.

If you're in a large company it could be in a different physical location to your building. If in a medium/small company, it's likely in a separate room with a couple of other server machines. Otherwise it could be any computer attached to your network that runs a server OS.

Servers are usually located in a central office, or a "Server Room", or a closed room.
