question about rafters and vents on a house?

on the exterior of my house I was wondering if I can install vents under the rafters or do I have to find an alternate spot to place them so it properly cools the attic space?

if you want to cool the Attic the best way is to add fan either into the roof or thru the wall they can be set up electrically to exaust the air at a set temperature then turn off whats the attic coools a bit vents in the side walls will be more efficient if you can do 2 of them across from eich other......vents from the outside between the joists... the soffitt can be drilled with many 3" holes between joists and then inserting plastic slotted plugs this will circulate air between the roof rafters to keep them dry mandatory if you ever insulate the roof rafters

For attic ventilation, more is better. Where these vents go depends on the architecture. If you have a soffit under the rafters, vents could be cut, but you also need them at the higher points to induce a draft. Inducing a draft is preferable to electric fans since the electric fans use significant amounts of electricity and have short lives due to the high temps they operate in.

Make sure your attic insulation is up to the standards of your climate zone.
