What is wrong with being an amputee?
Some people have different abilities/disabilities. It's what "makes the world go round", our differences
Amputees deal with their situation and if they are God fearing, they count their blessings as well.
God doesn't have to physically heal an amputee if he is working in the heart of man. Who really cares about a leg, when your spiritual condition needs help?

Nothing at all wrong with being an amputee, especially if that's what's necessary to keep you alive. I was trying to prepare myself once to loose a certain body part, and pulled a book off my bookshelf to see if it might have anything in it to help me.... I read a little blurb...about a guy who'd gone into the hospital knowing he might have to loose a leg. The doctor told him he wasn't sure and they'd only know during the surgery...So after the surgery the doctor came to this patient and told him that he was sorry but the patient did loose his leg. The patient denied it and said he did not loose the leg. The doctor reiterated firmly that yes indeed the patient DID loose his leg, and again, the patient adamantly refused this notion and equally firmly announced he DID NOT loose his leg. The doctor began to worry how this man would be able to accept this news that he lost his leg, and just tried telling him one more time that he lost his leg. The man said yet again, he did not LOOSE his leg......he gave it freely. God had given it to him and if God wanted it back, well He could have it early....such peacefulness. I felt a lot better about the part I was giving back... I like your questions Birdie.

You are battling with the Dawkins question, why wont God heal an amputee?
In majority of cases, amputation occurs due to trauma, or by a disease process. Diseases came on the scene when sin altered the human genome. Otherwise we would have perfect genetics and disease would not affect us at all.
Paul prayed 3 times that an affliction be removed, and it was not removed. But Paul was answered. The affliction helped him spiritually by removing arrogance. Our afflictions also serve as a testament to others. How we deal with them can inspire so many in our lives.
Many people give up on God because God does not answer some critical prayer in the way they desire.
They only prove that it was never "what they could do for God" but the real issue was "what's in it for me."
We all have varying afflictions. I am not happy about having diabetes but I will not blame the source of my every blessing.
Dont let this bother you. Dawkins is a God hater with an agenda. Not just a person who does not have enough proof to believe.
You are strong in the Lord, and dont let anyone make you question your love for the Lord who saved you.

I agree. I, myself, have a sort of handicap, but I haven't let it stop me from living my life. I have a type of mild Autism, called Asperger's, as well as social phobia. In other words, I have a very hard time being around other people, but like most Autistic people, my memory is better than normal. I believe everyone who has a handicap in one respect, has an advantage in another. However, I think shunning those who are different is normal human nature. It is in our nature to fear/hate anything that is different than us, or things we don't understand. Doesn't make it right, though.
God bless

I would certainly argue that conjoined twins is not evolutionary advantageous. In this world of technology, amputees can usually live fine, though losing a limb can greatly reduce your quality of life.

OMG.
Thank you for answering your own question.
I was really at odds as to what to say.
Amputees and other disabled persons learn to be grateful for their abilities, and the fact that their disabilities have stretched them to be the people they are.
Like a former prison inmate once told me, if it were not for his incarceration, He would not know Jesus Christ as God.
It's through the difficult things in our lives that we grow spiritually.

It's a common retort against the claim that god heals people by citing an obvious example in which he doesn't. Only things that can be healed spontaneously ever are.

Yes I agree In all my years I have never ever seen one of them complain
and yet many able bodied cry at the slightest headache
Maybe these people are here to teach us I always learn a little each time I ever meet one

Nothing wrong with it people generally can not help being one. There are many different types of healing and the spirit or soul should be the most important.

I don't know anything "wrong" with it. My father lost both his legs from the knees down due to diabetes. He knew the risk he took every time he ate a chocolate bar (which he did fairly often, despite having the disease). I don't believe that physical impairments are meant to hurt us, but rather they serve to teach us that our bodies are not really all that important in the big picture.

It's a common atheist response to say "Why doesn't god heal amputees?" when people claim they were healed by a miracle.
No amputees have ever had a leg grow back by miracle. That's the point of the argument.
