99 Pontiac Grand Am SE V6 stalling?

Ok, last week my car stalled up in the mountains. I knew that it was the fuel filter. The car would not start at all. Got the car off of the mountain and into the mechanic. He changed the fuel filter and it started right up.

It ran ok for a couple of days. It has is ok on short rides and runs fine. When it goes on rides on the highway and then has to slow down it wants to stall. After I pull the car over to the side of the road it starts up right away.

There is no check engine light.

Does anyone know what is going on?

The fuel pump needs to be replaced it happens quite often on the Grand Am and it will not cause a service light in most cases.

Source(s): Gm dealer for 10 years and counting. I also had the same thing happen to me.

You need to take the car to an expert and have the fuel pressure checked. Since the service light is not on, it sounds like the fuel pump is ready to expire. It's not GM's fault the fuel pumps go bad, it is the lazy owner of the vehicle that refuses to change the filter and stresses the fuel pump. GM small car fuel pumps will not last long with a clogged fuel filter. I should know, I work on them everyday.

it relatively is because of the fact the top unit (stereo) he bumped off controlled those lighting fixtures, you're maximum probable lacking the door chimes as nicely. In ninety 8 (some even older) GM began putting lighting fixtures administration, door chimes, protection, tire rigidity administration, etc interior the top unit itself. This shaved some rate off their base line yet finally made it a lot greater sturdy for a regular customer to enhance their stereo. the only way around it extremely is to preserve your previous head unit. that's many times moved to the trunk, particular harnesses are made to chop up out the main wonderful wires to maintain it interior the loop....you will locate them on line or at maximum electronics/stereo shops. easily the lighting fixtures, chimes, means, etc wires are run to the back and proceed to be hooked as much as the previous head unit....it extremely is the only thank you to get the computerized gentle effective aspects back except you're a genuine whiz with wiring. The previous unit is in lots of circumstances positioned right into a custom field and shoved into the corner of the trunk area, it relatively is many times carpeted to verify the trunk so it would not stick out. we've run into this greater circumstances than i will undergo in innovations, customer ripped the top unit out of a prior due style Pontiac Grand Am, Grand Prix, etc and could not decide why maximum of "effective aspects" stopped working. If the lighting fixtures and absence of door chime would not hardship then you definitely do not hardship approximately it, not something is being broken...it relatively is in basic terms an annoyance. If it does hardship then you definitely be arranged to spend approximately $35 for the chop up harness and yet another $15 or so in wiring, etc to get it to the back. it extremely is maximum suitable executed by utilising an experienced set up tech, they are in a position to do it in a fragment of the time and you will comprehend it relatively is right, anticipate to pay approximately $one hundred twenty to have a stereo save do this for you, greater in case you choose for a custom field to mount the previous head unit in. desire this facilitates!
