The Government is only good at 1 thing and its killing people, so why do we want them in charge of healthcare?

With the provisions in the stimulus bill that basically lets the Gov decide whether you are worth spending the money on, especially if you are older than 60. It was a Poison pill provision for the health care bill that was put into the stimulus bill instead. The reason it was put into the stimulus is no one was going to be able to read it before the vote and it would kill the health care bill.

Update:

None, "The government is good at lots of things, including healthcare. Medicare is far more efficient than insurance companies."

You are kidding right? Doctors refuse to take Medicare and Medicaid because they don't get paid. That is the same thing that will happen when we socialize healthcare. The Gov will refuse to prescribe drugs that can help you because they are to expensive. They will send you home to die just like in Europe and Canada.

Look at Western Europe to see how things are managed.

First of all, Obama is not going to bring in universal healthcare, a fact that many people (including those who voted for him) seem not to realise. He wants to make insurance more available to all.

Second, of course universal health-cover sucks. That is why we in Western Europe have it. We think, hmm, our healthcare system sucks. I know, lets keep it. I guess that is the same with Japan and Canada as well.

FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet.

FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids aged under five than western European countries with universal health coverage.

That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in Canada, France, Cuba, Germany, Japan etc, all of which have universal health coverage.

wass is correct, the U.S. is the only industrialized country in the world without health care coverage for all of its citizens. What's more, most U.S. citizens favor an alternative that has been shut out of the debate, by both the media and politicians: the single-payer policy which, again, is used by most of the rest of the world.

Air travel, which is regulated by the government (FAA) is safer than driving. Yes, you can thank the government for that.

The more you kill people over 60, the less medicare and medicade has to be paid out and one forth of all those are retired government workers recieving pensions. It's all about Dem. money.

You're confusing government's strengths with capitalism's area of expertise.
