Best things to do in San Diego?
I'm considering a vacation to San Diego this August. What are your favorite things to do and see in the area? Any recommendations for areas to dine, places to party or grab a few drinks (in late 20's so nothing too young), and attractions to see would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for all your help in advanced!

Some must see attractions are the world famous Zoo, Sea World, and Balboa Park. You can get a park passport which allows you entry to a dozen museums as well as the zoo.

Mission and Pacific Beach are your best bet for fun in the sun.

La Jolla offers great views, great food, and shopping.
Check out the surfers at historic Winansea Beach. Walk along the Cove and check out the caves. Take a stroll on Prospect St and check out the shops, galleries, and have some authentic Mexican food and Alfonso's. Then head to the Birch aquarium at The Scripps Institution of Oceanography. It has a spectacular view of the bluffs over the Pacific Ocean.

For nightlife, the Gaslamp Quarter offers dining, drinking and dancing. It's also the home of Petco Park and the San Diego Padres major league baseball team.
In July and August the Del Mar Racetrack is open.
The Old Point Loma Lighthouse at the Cabrillo National Monument offers great views of the dowtown skyline, San Diego Harbor and the Pacific Ocean. On a clear day you can see all the way to Mexico.

What you wish to do depends on whether you are visiting or if you are local. For me (local), I like to go to the beach because it is free, it is fun and basically - I dont' do anything except lounge around for free. For your age group, Pacific Beach would be your best bet. See here for info:

But if you are a tourist and want to go home and brag about having visited SAn Diego, then there are a couple of Must Do's:
The San Dieog Zoo is world famous: must see panda bears - they are not exceptionally exciting, but they are rare, and in that respect, you gotta see them. Polar bears are really cool. New Elephant exhibit is pretty good. See here for details:

When friends (older friends who are beyond the theme park age) come to visit, I like to take the to Balboa Park (lots of free gardens, not-free museums, and cool architecture here). Old Town is also a nice place to walk around along with Presidio hill is nice green space.

For grabbing a drink and chilling out, try Gaslamp Quarter:

Good luck!
