Um pneumonia is an infection in your lungs (not gonna get into specifics) but often times I have seen people have it for a long time, and with the fluid in their lungs for such a long amount of time, it did cause other things, such as bronchitis or empyema. Yes you should have it checked out. If its bacterial pneumonia you should be given antibiotics. If you are not contagious with breathing, then you won't be contagious kissing :)

My first question is that do you have any underlying susceptibility of any type such as some kind of immunodeficiency, diabetes or cystic fibrosis type illness. And do you have fever of specific character such as with chills or rigors, or evening rise of fever? You are 22 so most likely cystic fibrosis is almost ruled out. But such a long duration pneumonia obviously needs intensive blood work, radiology and sputum analysis for microbiology. Pneumonia due to bacterial/viral reasons is communicable by kissing or close contact because these organisms spread via aerosol.
It pneumonia stay for long and is accompanied by sudden spike of fever then it can progress and can cause pus Collection in lungs (medically known as empyema thoracis). I will recommend that you must see your doctor ASAP! to find the reason for pneumonia and whether it is really pneumonia or something else.
Tell your doctor about the illness history in detail, which will help in hitting the diagnosis. Also was there any recent history of travel countries where Tuberculosis is endemic and is there some on in contact with you who also have similar symptoms (just making you aware that this history is also important). If you smoke then this might be another reason that it is getting aggravated. Chest X-ray will help making diagnosis and most likely you will get one.

Are you on antibiotics? If so, you aren't contagious. I've had pneumonia when I was in nursing school and my instructor told me I had to go to the hospital even though I was still kinda sick. She told me I wasn't contagious after 24 hours on antibiotics. Hope this helps and you feel better soon. It's lousy being sick.
