Sure, as long as you let them check your credit first.
I was a curbstone dealer for 15+ years and I usually insisted on cash but with maybe 10% of buyers, I just "knew" their checks were good.
Never was wrong.
One time, back when dealers gave the customers the title and not sent them in on their behalf, I actually FORGOT to get the money. I called the customer and he forgot too. The cash was in his pocket, he met me halfway and gave it to me despite the car legally being his. If he hadnt, there wouldnt have been anything I could do about it.
Dealers generally can "feel" their customers out.
And they may accept your check, say they want to have your car spruced up and then send an unoccupied salesman to your bank to cash the check before you actually drive off. (Not for cash, but a cashiers check in the dealers name)
Ive seen that happen at new car dealers when they were not certain of the buyer.

most want a certified cheque unless you are a well know customer to that dealership, but as a general rule no and if they do dont look for your keys until the cash clears

Not usually but depending on the amount they may do it but they will call the bank and verify.
They would prefer a cashiers check
