Would it be alright to use gutter apron instead of drip edge?
Would it work better or what is the difference between the two?

Possibly but a drip edge drops the water away from the building when you aren't using a gutter so the water isn't running down the fascia and there really isn't any possibility of it being wicked up behind it and causing rot like there would be with gutter apron and no gutter.
