Issues with a healing tattoo...?

Hi! I have a week old tattoo that is not healing as smoothly as my previous ones. I noticed some raised bumps under some of the black coloured in areas and at least one of these bumps seeped some serum or pus or something earlier today. These bumps are red and super itchy! Another small section that also had a raised bump lost its scab and there seems to be a tiny hole in the skin and the ink looks faded around the little crater! There are only 3 or 4 bumps throughout the whole piece (over my shoulder and down my upper arm) so it's not too bad but the tiny hole is in a very visible spot!

My question is...will this little hole heal?

What caused it so I can avoid more... and...

..what measures should I take from this point onwards. My previous aftercare has been to not get it wet to the point of soaking and to put lotion on it 2 or 3 times a day.

Thanks for the help!

I am going to go see my artist next week to have him take a look at it, but since it's the weekend I just wanted some answers to tide me over.

Boy, this must be the day for this. The last few questions about tattoos not healing right, are all because people think they've got to drown their tattoos in lotion, or whatever healing balm they're using, when the truth is, if they'd just let 'em get air, there would be no problem in the first place. The small bumps are a dead givaway that it's not getting enough air. (Now, I know you said you're not soaking it, but have you been leaving it covered, or rebandaging it? That could be it.) Almost all tat artists, including me, heal their work up dry, unless they itch badly or they are real painful. And a little touch of bactine spray will work wonders. But, folks, if you put a lotion on it at all, it's detrimental when put on too thick. Real thin, just enough to cover it. The little hole shouldn't be noticeable when it's healed, but if it is, that's what the touch-up sitting is for. Take advantage of it. Happy fourth of July! Take care.

It sounds like a reaction to the ink. This usually happens if there is titianium in it. With me it always happens with red ink. The little hole will heal eventually but you might lose some ink out of that little area, if so, just get it recoloured. Apply lotion, yes nappy rash cream like Bepanthen is good, all day, every day and try not to scratch it as this will make the little bumps not heal and may also cause more. Some of my tattoos had that reaction, I got them recoloured once and they have been okay for about 6 years.

Sounds like you got an infection going on there. Something my tattoo artist recommended to me was putting diaper rash cream on it a few times a day. I've used that method for all my tattoos and I've never had a problem with any of them. But if you've got like bumps or rashes or stuff I'd probably have a doctor check it out.

Glad wrap it with bepanthen. Moist healing environment is always best. The crater is prob due to picking (on purpose and even accidental) It happened with me a few times, but all healed fine :-)

The pores are clogged. You are either putting something on there that you are allergic to (which if you have had other tattoos, I doubt that) or putting too much on.

well normally that could be due to picking scabs or scrathing it.

normally the best thing to do is to leave it alone completely.

cover it with sudocreme and take a little clean film over it.

put this on over night but take of during the day, during the day put sudocreme on it .

that should stop further infection and stop the itching

    enjoy.

it sounds like razor burn, that happens not a big deal, deffinitly shouldnt b scratching, if u must i would suggest slapping it, better for the color and you dont have to worry about picking at it, you also be applying A&D ointment 2 it every few hours for atleast a week or so
