Is it enough to walk for 20 mins, 3 times per day?

I walk for twenty minutes every morning, and twice in the evening. i do this six days per week. Its the longest walk i can take in the area i live in because if i go any further its not a safe area.

Im walking for weight loss and i am also reducing my daily calorie intake. Do i need to walk more?

    Hello there,

Walking is a really good way of exercising, because if you ran the same distance, you wouldn't burn off as many calories, because your exercise would be over with more quickly, and your heart will not have had as much exercise as it would when you are walking, because walking takes longer, thus exercises your heart for longer.

If your not satisfied with the weight loss after trying this regime, then maybe you should try and do the same walking route 4 or 5 times a day if you have time, but following the same route so that you don't go into any unsafe areas, particularly at night time.

Its getting the balance that is essential. Eat healthy things such as salads, grilled chicken and food which does not contain too many calories, and your weight loss should work.

Also, make sure that when you are walking, that you power walk, because that gets the heart pumping, so will exercise you heart more effectively, and cause you to burn more calories. Maybe try and do the route twice, so that you are walking for 40 minutes, because 40 minutes is the recommended time to keep your heart exercising for if weight loss is to be achieved.

    Hope this helps :)

All exercise uses up some calories, walking however has no other health or cardiovascular advantage as does for example jogging.

60 minutes of walking at 4.5 miles/hour ( which is quite fast) burns up about 400 calories. you need to burn 3,600 calories to burn of 1lb in weight, so this would take 9 days of exercise.

Walking doesn't burn nearly as much calories as eating less.

If you can create an efficient diet, you wouldn't need any exercise at all. I think what you do is sufficient for exercise. Try joining a gym and using the weight machines, you wont' get buff, but it will work all parts of your body and is very healthy for you.
