Do You Think You Should Tell The Truth?
Do you think that the " Best Answer " is chosen by the " Asker " based purely on what they want to hear and not necessarily correct. If this is the case is there any point in telling the truth.

The points you earn on Yahoo Answers aren't anywhere near as important as telling the truth is. If an "Asker" is going to just pick an answer based on what they want to hear they are really just asking "Who thinks I'm right and agrees with me?"

Yes, there is a reason for telling the truth, even though what you say is true far too often. There are others that may read your answer besides the asker. I have gotten many unexpected email messages from those who read one of my answers and told me they agree with me and mine was by far the best answer and should have been picked. Some of them even read my answer long after the question was closed, and had never offered their own answer to the question or even seen it until long afterwords (pun intended). What I have said before bears repeating. The points mean nothing to me. The truth, however, means everything. When I can feed some child hungry for a bite to eat or educate some child hungry for knowledge, the points will become important. But not until then.
Sometimes I sit looking at one of my answers simply because there seems to be something missing. I have answered your question, yet it seems incomplete. If you do not mind, I am going to add something that I think should be added, simply because it has to do with world peace. If my doing so offends you and you want it removed, let me know and I will do so in an edit, or will remove my answer completely if you wish. But for your consideration:
Bette Midler, From a Distance - video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDSh5wUtXt4
If I had to pick one song to be the theme song for the Baha'i Faith, it would likely be From a Distance by Bette Midler. World peace is what the song is about. World peace is what the Baha'i Faith is all about. What I do not understand is why so many do not even bother to investigate it. If it is not what it claims to be, you have wasted a bit of time. But what if it is and you ignore it? Do you realize that if you take just the people in the United States alone, and equate each one with one single, solitary second, you would have nearly a century? Over ninety-seven years! Now, if the Baha'i Faith is the best if not the only way toward finally achieving world peace, and each time someone ignores it, it adds a one second delay to the time when there will be peace, then we have just doomed our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to a lifetime of wishing and praying for peace rather than enjoying it. But no matter what you do, no matter what you believe and no matter what you teach your children, sooner or later somewhere down the line your descendants will embrace the Baha'i Faith and each one will then add one more heart to our ever-growing, world-wide family.
The Baha'i Faith, uniting the world, one heart at a time.

The Jews await the Messiah, the Christians the return of Christ, the Moslems the Mahdi, the Buddhists the fifth Buddha, the Zoroastrians Shah Bahram, the Hindus the reincarnation of Krishna, and the Atheists - a better social organization! Baha'u'llah represents all these, and thus destroys the rivalries and the enmities of the different religions; reconciles them in their primitive purity, and frees them from the corruption of dogmas and rites. For the Baha'i Faith has no clergy, no religious ceremonial, no public prayers; its only dogma is belief in God and in his Manifestations (Zoroaster, Moses, Jesus, et al., Baha'u'llah).

I agree, many people ask questions for reassurance not to get an honest answer but honesty is the best policy and telling the truth is very important

Yeah, I've seen that a lot. But, as far as religion goes, everyone has different opinions, and we won't really be able to tell who is right until we die. If they DO pick BA just because someone shares their opinion, it wouldn't really matter if you told the truth or not because you didn't get BA.

That should be obvious to anyone who's been here more than 15 minutes.
Of course, not everyone's goal is to have the most points, or the highest percentage of best answers.

I always pick what I genuinely feel is the best answer, whether I agree with it or not. I also always tell the truth (e.g. I feel that the bible is full of cr@p) but somehow I've only ever got one VN and I've never been suspended!

Yes I do believe that to be true at least on this forum. But yes always tell the truth the world would be better off if you did.

Many that ask questions merely wish to have their beliefs reflected.
During times of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

Absolutely. The fundies asks atheists questions, yet in the end just chooses another fundie's answer as best answer. And visa versa.

truth is always the right answer. It just may not be the best.
I try to give best answer to people who answer the question whether I like it or not. points for trying
