Dedicated Graphics Card?

When a laptop has dedicated graphics, does that mean i can change the graphics card? If not, then how do i know if the graphics card is upgradable?

There are no retail dedicated (internal) graphics cards for laptops. Your best bet could be a proprietary card from laptop maker.

The other alternative (expensive) is the Asus XG Station external graphics card that interfaces with the Express card slot and requires an external monitor.

It means it comes with hardware that specifically takes care of the graphics, usually a powerful chip by ATI or NVidia or an actual card that fits in the case just like the other components in your laptop.

If the laptop you want has an actual card (like the ones provided say , for example by manufacturers such as Falcon or Alienware) it depends: some are upgradable and some aren't. Look for an option to upgrade within the product description.

The best way to find this out is by Googling the model number you are interested in (and reading reviews from users and sites such as Maximum PC or C-net) ...type, for example: "Alienware XL3240" +reviews
