Weird website playing tricks on me?

I was looking up the lyrics to this song that I had in my head. I clicked on it and guess what I found. It took me to a porn site! I clicked back immediately and stared at my screen. I looked at the link again, and read it to make sure I hadn't made a mistake. The link had turned purple, showing that I had just clicked on it, and sure enough the description was that of a lyrics website, not a porn site. I clicked it a second time and guess what...It took me to the lyrics site...What the hell just happened?

Update:

okay so I do have anti-virus protection and I'm running a scan right now...I do use Firefox so I must be unlucky...

Judging from the description you gave, it sounds like what I call a "java-bouncer." I use it a lot when I want to have advertisements that aren't visible on the websites I build, but hackers will use it as well so that you are redirected to one of their sites which will have viruses or other stuff in it.

Basically, it works this way: you write about 15 lines of java script code (or some other less advanced language) into the normal website, and each person that visits the website will receive a "cookie", which basically lets the computer remember information that it got from a website (let's say that you get a cookie telling your computer that you have been to this site before). Then you are "bounced" (or redirected) to another completely different site that you didn't intentionally want.

If you leave the site, and then click the same link again, the cookie will tell the website "this computer has been 'bounced' already; don't do it again", and you can get to the normal website without being bounced. It's very common among obscure websites that generally don't see a lot of traffic.

Generally, browsers like Opera and Firefox are mostly immune to situations like this, whereas Chrome, Safari, Maxathon, and Internet Explorer are not.

Anti-virus, anti-malware, spyware, etc. won't stop this kind of attack at all. Only programs known as anti-scripts will stop this attack, and even then they aren't very effective. Pop-up blockers don't help much either, and though scanning your computer might help, I doubt it will. This doesn't sound like spyware, malware, or ad-ware because it didn't open in a new window. It is most likely the site that is the culprit, and I trust that your computer is fine.

If you must scan your computer, then use Avast! Anti-Virus, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials (which is new and free by the way), A-Squared Free, or a zero-day attack scanner. These will definitely find any threat on your PC.

If you need programs like these, or any zero-day attack scanners, email me at whitewolf_of_the_northern_arctic@yahoo.com

Programs such as Norton Anti-Virus, McAfee, AVG, NOD32, Ad-aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Online Armor, Safe 'n' Sec, or Advanced System Protector are not very reliable scanners, and none of them can block this form of attack as well as many other attacks and hacks. They are a waste of time, memory, space, and money. They are easily comparable to Windows Defender.

    Hope that answers your question.

This site is obviously not good for your computer. To prevent this from happening, try out mcafee's siteadvisor (google it). It gives a rating of whether or not the site is safe or not. It's pretty neat and helpful. So next time you scroll through sites, youll know exactly what to expect if you click on it. But for now, dont look up lyrics at that site. Try another one. Also, run some virus scans and adaware scans or something, for preventative measures.

Okay, we should look at plausible explanations. A good researcher or scientists does not go for the improbable but looks for the possible. Then when you have no longer anything possible then the impossible is looked at. Creaking Sounds in Home: So has it been hot in your area? You said your family is typically not awake at midnight, homes typically will move and shift in the heat or cold as the wood grows and shrinks. This will sound like creaks and groans and cracks and it can also sound like steps in homes. Sleep walking: Your family member would not remember sleep walking and if they have been taking certain types of sleep medication like Ambien, which could cause people who do not sleep walk to well sleep all sorts of things, including walking, they would not know they were in deed sleepwalking. There was a recent case in which a woman went to the store and bought groceries while asleep!! She even drove a car! The Door Shaking like the knob is moving: Does anyone sleep with a window open?? You can with just 1 window open get an atmospheric problem which even when the window is not on the same floor, can cause a door to rattle and shake. Sometimes if a door is open and the wind is high it can cause doors to open and shut. So you need more evidence, keep a journal and make notes and see if in fact this is basic temperature phenomenon or if it is in fact a paranormal event. This rant is not for you who wrote this question but for the person who claimed to be the 'Founder' of Eastern State Paranormal Society: Ty is it? I researched your 'society' I found 1 tawdry little advertisement in Craigslist, begging for members. It seems everyone who can get the Scifi channel and watches "Ghost Hunters" and "Paranormal State" thinks they are investigators. Personally I find this pretty insulting but typical of people who hitch themselves to any fad that comes along. Someone thinks something on TV is cool or fun and bingo they are now the biggest and best. SIGH

Either the website is set up to redirect you(not all sites that seem legit are) or some sort of spyware on your computer could have caused it.

If you don't have virus protection, I highly recommend picking up something free like AVG. For spyware, check out spybot and or adaware.

Also, consider installing firefox(if you aren't already) and install he addon "adblock plus" and "no-script".
