Archeologists discovered the first signs of ceremonial burials among our ancestors somewhere's in the neighborhood of 60,000 years ago. Most believe that coincided with the first beliefs of god(s) and an afterlife. More recently, neuroscientists have discovered that by probing certain areas of the limbic system, they can artificially trigger a 'religious experience' in test subjects.

I'd say the evidence points toward man creating the mystical unseen entity.

God started a chemical reaction that led on to the big bang and that led on to the whole creation of everything. You will find all your answers in the book of Genesis.

I feel the answer is both.

I feel God is the reason for all creation but I feel that man has warped his own image of what he feels God is.

Myself, I don't feel God is benevolent or vindictive. I don't feel he needs to be worshiped over appreciated. I don't feel that he would want us to live in fear of him or set up boundaries based on the ideals that he would smite us for being human.
