Why do Christians disobey God's law, as stated in both the OT and the NT?

I don't get the following...

If the Old Testament says:

Leviticus 20:10 And the man that committeth adultery with another man's wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

And Jesus in the New Testament says:

Mark 10:11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. 12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

Then why aren't Christians pushing for the execution of people who get divorced and remarry??? Or at least criminalized???

I mean, isn't adultery one of the BIG OFFENSES -- as in being one of the 10 commandments???

What's the deal?

Update:

Edit: based on some of the early answers from the fundies, I should have posted this question in the Dance section. To judge from the tap dancing so far. My apologies.

Update 2:

@Boo: so then it's okay to ignore one of the 10 commandments.

Update 3:

@Curtis: understood. And still what you are saying is that one of the ten commandments is to be ignored completely? How about we also ignore "Thou shalt not murder"? Who gets to decide what is still binding and what is not? And, if the whole of the old law is no longer binding then why not discard the OT altogether?

Probably because divorce rates amongst Christians is actually higher than that of the general population.

First place, you are reading the hardest sentences that would be handed own by the Jewish Supreme Court when the First Temple was thriving, and 99.9% of the people, Jew or God-Fearer, was righteous. And if 2 of any death sentences were issued in 50 yrs, the court was considered a travesty. But like some of the laws for Jews, they cannot be done today, actually, the Jews have less laws for their daily life then the Roman Catholic Church issues for their own congregations.

Actually, out of the Covenant of Noah which was then imbedded with the Moses Covenant, only righteous God-Fearers are to follow the universal laws for a moral and ethical society and way of life without converting to any religion. They also have a ticket to the world-to-come, regardless of their race, color, creed, or gender ... Actually Jesus was following the Sadducees' rule on divorce. Paul went with the Samaritan view, so much for "good" Samaritans. You will find the Noach Laws (see wikipedia) in the Book of Acts, not the Big Ten, they are also in the Roman church's catechism for non-Catholics as a valid until the end of times, also in the Koran and so forth.

Source(s): 1. Prohibition of Idolatry: You shall not have any idols before God, nor bow down to one. Those that never heard of God can still be righteous. 2. Prohibition of Murder: You shall not murder on purpose with malice and forethought, or infancide or for an idol. (Genesis 9:6) 3. Prohibition of Theft: You shall not steal, even time. 4. Prohibition of Sexual Promiscuity: You shall not commit any of a series of sexual prohibitions, which include adultery, incest, rape, molestation, pedophiles, bestiality and male sodomy or using seed for anointing. (See Secret Gospel of Mark with Lazarus, by Morgan). 5. Prohibition of Blasphemy: You shall not blaspheme God's name or destroy by fire, within garbage or erase His name or take an an Oath you know you cannot fulfill. 6. Dietary Law: Do not eat flesh taken from an animal while it is still alive or eat or drink of any blood. (Genesis 9:4) 7. Requirement to have just Laws: You shall set up an effective judiciary to enforce the preceding six laws fairly w/mercy. The Noahide Laws comprise the six laws given to Adam in the Garden of Eden,[4] and a seventh (eating flesh from a living animal), which was added after the Flood of Noah. Later at the Revelation at Sinai the Seven Laws of Noah were regiven to humanity and embedded in the 613 Laws given to the Children of Israel along with the Ten Commandments, which are part of, and not separate from, the 613 commandments from God in His Word. The only Bible available to anyone in the 1-2 cent. was the Jewish one. But the Covenants for God-Fearers NEVER required conversion to Judaism or to follow the laws for Jews only. That was added in the 3rd cent. editions by Christian "corrector"--see Codex Sinaiticus & the various editions that added & substracted at will. EDITED: See original of ACTS 15:20. "Through the Written Covenant, these commands are given to those sons of man (God-Fearers not Jewish), not to consume animals that have been choked, strangled, smothered, having the wind knocked out of them by means of blow to head, or have been killed in battle, war, or accident. Nor should they benefit from contaminated meats, use any left over from pagan rites whether as in an image, likeness, real or unreal, seen or unseen, in the name of a spirit, ghost or apparition, whether in your mind or in memory of one departed as in ghost or spirit, higher or lower than yourself. Do not cook in blood, or consume any blood, old or fresh of man or animal or consume things that resemble blood like grape juice, wine or to participate in the recovery of blood for any use in food through violence, war or murder. One should not benefit from anyone or be lured to resemble or give the impression of having or been involved in illicit sexual intercourse, adultery, molestation, sodomy, lesbinism, sodomy or illicit sexual activity with animals, with close relatives as stated in Lev. 18, not to have relations ever with the person that is divorced because of your relationship, man or woman. Not to marry an idol worshipper or one whose God is of a lessor spirit and lead you to lust after another so as to be given over to idolatry." Seems the Islamic religion had the earliest translation. See how they wrote about Isa (Jesus) in the Koran from the Christian teachers of his time.

How about Leviticus: "should any priest's daughter profane herself by playing the whore, she shall be burnt with fire!" Why isn't Mile Cyrus charcoal by now?

Where are the literalism's when we need them? They're all learning how to build domes with pi equalling three!

You are absolutely right! Now that the evangelical fascists are no longer running the country we need to get them busy enforcing the little things that have slipped by while they were busy invading the evil saracens and wrecking the economy. All those evil bastards who have not paid their proper tithes must meet the fate of Ananias! No exceptions will be permitted.

Well too many want the salvation but dont want to follow the Lord. Many take Paul's saying we are not under law to mean all of the commandments in OT, instead of not being under law of how to have a relationship with the Lord. And of course many do not read their Bibles to know what is in it. And for the select few that do know it there is the matter that they want what they want and just say well God knows my heart and He will forgive me.

Christians are not a party to the old covenant, and Jesus was talking to those under the old covenant in Mt. 19.

Okay this is an easy one.

Remember in the Bible when a group of religious men brought a woman to Jesus, and they wanted to stone her. They accused this woman of committing adultery, and they even caught her in the act. What did Jesus say? He said, " He without sin cast the first stone." All the men dropped their stones and walked away.

Then Jesus said to the woman, "Your sins are FORGIVEN! Go and sin no more."

Christians are not allowed to kill people because of their sins, because Jesus died for them. Their sins are forgiven. Any sin punishable by death in the old testament is FORGIVEN because Jesus paid the price of death for them.

My neighbor was 'working on the Sabbath' ( running his !#*! noisy lawn mower), so I threw a stone at him.Does that count?? Or did I actually have to kill him?

Source(s): neighbor with a big knot on his head.

Because nowhere in the NT does it say that an adulterer should be executed...

EDIT: Well....why don't you point out where it says that in the NT? Simple as that. Why would an atheist such as yourself expect us to believe that without evidence?
