How much should we spend on the wedding gift?
My husband and I are traveling from Texas to Minnesota for his brother's wedding. We will be spending quite a bit of money just getting to the wedding location and our lodging while there. Plane ticket for me - $300.00; gas for my husband to drive up and back - $100.00(?); tux rental for my husband (he's the best man) - $130.00; hotel room for two nights - $200.00; chipping in for food and alcohol at joint bachelor/bachelorette party - $30.00.
What would be an appropriate amount to spend on a wedding gift for them? When my husband and I got married last year, his brother and fiancee spent around $50 on our gift and did not have the added expenses like we do of traveling.

Well you can't not give them anything because you know they would take that the wrong way.
I say just give them the same amount they spent on you, $50. They should understand hopefully that you did have to spend some money to come to their wedding! Otherwise, just get them a gift off of their registry in the $50 range.
That is a tough situation, but it sucks because there is really no way around it for you guys, you will have to fork out money no matter what!
Good Luck! :)

Are they registered anywhere? If they are just purchase something from the registry. If not then personally I would just give cash. I had ppl fly to my wedding from Vegas, California, Puerto Rico and Florida. Some gave me $50 and others up to $300 I was greatful no matter what.
Typically when giving cash they say you should at least cover the plate cost but with all you are spending to travel anything you can afford it good.

In my experience, that's just sort of the deal with weddings. I was just in my best friend's wedding, and in addition to paying for the dress, hair, makeup, shower, and bachelorette party, I was also expected to shell out $50 for both a shower gift, and a wedding gift. There's not really any way around it, it seems like that's wedding etiquette.

$25 seems fair. they should already understand that you have spent a ton of money as it is
