The first Punic war was fought from 264BC to 241BC for supremacy in the Mediterranean Sea. The war was between Carthage and the Roman Republic. The Romans called it the Punic war because their name for Carthaginans was Punici (older Phoenici) due to the Carthaginans Phoenician ancestry.
