Why is it illegal to drive a car with no seat belt when motorcycles don't have them?

If we have the right to ride a motorcycle with no helmet or seat belt, shouldn't we have the right to drive a car without them? Seat belt laws are just another way for the cops to take our money for B.S. Yes, they save lives but it should still be a matter of choice.

Like if I want to jump out of an airplane wearing a parachute...it's a little more dangerous than riding a bicycle, but I still have the right to do it.

Should we outlaw playing with sticks? Riding bicycles? Bungie Jumping and skydiving? I know! Let's just outlaw anything that could be considered fun so nobody ever gets hurt.... and let's outlaw the serving of hot coffee too.

Hell, we should outlaw the internet because people keep giving their liberal opinions on it.

In Missouri, you have to wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle.

Using your logic, drivers should also have to wear them.

Newsflash: Motorcycles and cars are NOT THE SAME. Therefore, different rules may apply to each of them.

Because motorcycles provide no protection to the rider, so there is no benefit in being attached to it during an accident. Cars, on the other hand, have many safety features, and most impacts are survivable -- but it doesn't do any good if you're bouncing around the car like a pinball.

The problem with your comment is: you are trying to apply common sense to something the government as created.

You're right! And most of the laws in comparison are rediculous, but were passed at different times, likely following some event that spurred the onset of the law.

And to add to your last statement, I would love to see an aptitude test required before accessing or posting on the net. LOL! It would be a different world indeed.

Providing that when you decide you will not wear a seat belt, you will sign a waiver of insurance so your company...which just might be my company also...is not going to get stuck with your medical expenses. In my opinion, the same thing should hold true for the other things you mentioned that are considered high risk.

Because in a bad motorcycle accident, getting thrown away from the accident is often a good thing, because a motorcycle offers absolutely no protection in a collision.

Cars offer a great deal of protection -- but that doesn't really matter if you're doing your impression of a human pinball.

You don't have the right to drive a Motorcycle or an Automobile on a public highway, you have a licensed privilege.

No seat belts in school busses either. Isn't that more important than your hot coffee?

in terms of safety, you dont want to be attached to a motorcycle when it goes down, sobelts on a motorcycle may be more dangerous than not

short answer - The voters in this country don't want freedom

long answer - If my tax dollars are going to pay for your health care, I don't want you running out and bashing your skull in then sending me the bill. Your stupid "choice" is going to cost ME a lot of money. That's the problem with socialism - we all sink together so it's illegal to swim.
