Ugh. I have to drive to San Francisco from the Central Valley. How fast should I go on SR-152/Ave 23?

It's another dreaded trip up to San Francisco from California's Central Valley. Time is an issue here, so I can't take the scenic route using 101 N. I was planning on taking 99N to SR-152 through Los banos and Gilroy until it hits the 101 towards San Jose. How fast do you go on SR-152? The posted speed limit is 55 MPH and anybody who actually drives that speed is going to get shot. It's just like going to the central coast, if you actually drive the speed limit on that one-lane road, you'll get shot in no time. The 99N is no problem for me, because the speed limit is 70 and I ususally go 75-80, which is reasonable. So my question is, what speed to you "reccomend" and if anybody can think of any alternative routes, I'd be glad to have your suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

When I drive 152 I actually see most people going about 70, and even slower once you really get into the cliffs of Pacheco Pass. It is like the sheer drops and rockslides seem to persuade people to slow down. That road through the pass is also undergoing construction after Casa De Fruta and before Gilroy, they are building new overpasses and walls, so the tucks really seem to slow down the traffic.

    However, I recommend this route> CA-152 to I-5 to I-580 to I-80(Bay Bridge).

This route is much faster than 152 to 101 because you will skip all the traffic that accumulates through the South Bay and particularly San Jose.

It is also better than 99 to 120 because there will always be a traffic jam on 205 through Tracy, and in the mornings/afternoons 120 can get just as jammed when it merges with 5 in Lathrop.

You might also consider taking 152 to 5 to 580 to 238 to 880 to 92 (through Hayward and across the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge into Foster City/San Mateo) and onto 101. This can save you the time that would be waisted waiting at the bay bridge toll plaza, or about 20 minutes.

Source(s): I have driven to SF many different ways and like to experiment. These routes I have found to be the fastest.

You can get off 152 at I-5 and go north to I-580 to the Bay Bridge. Or you can go up 99 to 120 and go west to I-205 and onto I-580 and the Bay Bridge.

    Where in San Fran?

I usually take the 99 to the 120 ......well it is in the link. I think it is faster than the 152. I hate the 152 because it is slow and loaded with CHP. Hopefully this helps.
