The most well-known electric car currently in production and available for purchase right now is the Tesla Roadster, with a 250-mile range on battery power.
It uses a custom-built Lithium-Ion battery pack made from a few hundred laptop Lion battery cells.

well they are special ionic batteries that you cant really buy lol but they are massive
