Chevrolet Astro Van 1991 water leak problem?
Hi, in the last 2 days and after a recharge of air condition , i found a small place of water leak under the engine (in place between the transmission and the engine). The dealer told me that it is mostly due to the corrosion of rounded small metal cover (water jacket plug ) in the end of engine and he has to dismantle the transmission , flywheel and propeller shaft so as to replace the water jacket plug !. Is there any other simpler way to change this plug or even another reason of water leak in this place? Thanks .
The water leak has the anti corrision colour and i have to add 0.5 lt. each time after using the car.

you may have 2 reasons of water leak in this place , the first one is what is mensioned befor the second reason is due to the leak in the hoses of hot water of the rear heater or the leak in their controller.

Seeing your added details and assuming the dealer is likely correct and not just after your dollar. Try stop leak first. Those plugs are a pain and replacement is no guarantee the leak remains fixed. If you choose replacement, look at the plug yourself and maybe scratch or mark it somehow and verify the shop replaced that plug.
Sidebar: As a matter of courtesy when you own a leaky engine, park in the street (not their driveway) when you visit your friends.
I use a stop leak product that comes in a tube the size of a roll of quarters. It will look like small particles of cork covered with a metallic dust. It is sold under a few different names, try Silver Seal or Copper Seal. I have put it into an engine and drove for years without further leakage. For me it has stopped leaks even where water was 'spraying' out of a pump gasket. Try that.

Have you been having to add fluid? reason being if you are not adding fluid then what you are seeing is moisture condensation from the A/C evaporator. The drain is in the location that you are describing. On the other hand, a cooling system pressure test will confirm if a leak exists and will make it much easier to find. Suggest you try a leak test to confirm your suspicions. If it does play out to be the soft plug, then your stuck with an expensive repair, sorry.

If it has been right after an A/C recharge, I would be far more suspicious of water from the a/c drain than an antifreeze leak. A replacement like that is very laborous. Not a job for the faint of heart.

Where are you? I didn't know there was anywhere that had Astros, Escalades, H2s, and called the Mitsubishi a Pajero... That said, I'd pick the Land Cruiser first by a long shot. Other than the cost, there isn't a single thing to complain about. Next it would be between the Pajero and the Benz. I'd go for the Pajero based on the price differential. You would never find any of the others in my driveway and I've worked on all of them except the X6.

there are freeze plugs behind the flywheel and if they are leaking you have to slide the transmission back, pull the flywheel and replace it. you might luck out and it could be 1 of the freeze plugs on the block leaking and running back. if it,s clear then you have nothing to worry about because it,s coming from the AC drain tube.
