Which is the best day to watch the Perseid Meteor Shower?

Sites say that August 12th, but does that mean Aug 12: starting at 12 am or Aug 12-13: 11 pm - 1 am

I've never seen this before, so I was hoping to catch it this year :)

Also, which direction should I face and at what time is the peak/prime time to watch. I'm in the eastern time zone

    Aug. 12/13. That means the night that starts at sunset August 12 and ends at sunrise on August 13. Watch as late as possible. Just before the start of morning twilight is usually best.

    The best 'day' is actually at night. On the 12'th and the 13'th around 0200 until the Sun comes up on the eastern seaboard.
