Na....New Yorkers arent rude....!!?
LAST WEEK! I went to NYC, which was captivating. I would encourage many to go. At first, I was a tad nervous facing new york natives--must you know I am a very sensitive person. I was scared they would come off as rude & careless. After my trip, I felt different about that. I met a few and they were naturally charming. I think its cos they are outgoing + their own personality. But it made me think, I dont understand why they are considered rude. I think maybe they come off as since they have places to go & people to see that they have no time to deal with nonsense. I even met a girl my age from NYC who was so geniune & cool.
What do yall think?

New Yorkers aren't rude, their straightforward which can be mistaken as being rude. It's a big city with millions of people, you have to be pushy and it can get tiresome to be nice to everyone as there is always people in your face. Also, if you notice cashiers in NY are fast!!! No convo, they ring you up fast. If you go to a smaller town, they chit chat a-lot:) Just my observation, I spend tons of time in NYC and notice a huge difference when I come back home.

It depends on where you're from. I am from DC, but after living in the south so long, I forget that in the north people don't tend to chat as much, hold open doors, have the patience to deal with tourists, give directions, etc.
Being in a wheelchair I have to say that it's a lot easier in the south - people always hold open doors, I often have people ask if I need help bringing things to the car and getting into the car, and people in stores always rush to help (I mean other shoppers not just employees) if I can't reach something. When I travel to NY or Boston, I'm pretty much on my own and won't travel much alone due to so many sidewalk obstructions and problems getting around that I need help with. Pretty much anywhere else I travel I find that I can manage on my own just fine and if I need help getting up a curb occassionally or if someone parks in such a way that blocks my wheelchair ramp a stranger is usually willing to help.
I've never found most New Yorkers to be rude but some are definitely different. I think people tend to look for rudeness in New Yorkers because of the stereotype and if you're looking for it you will always find rude people no matter where you are.

People always say that about us New Yorkers. I honestly don't think we are rude I think we are just brutally honest and a lot of people can't handle the truth. It all depends on the part you go to also because certain parts have more rude people than others. If you were in Manhattan then maybe that's why you didn't encounter a few rude ones ( that's where all the tourist are). I'm not saying all New Yorkers are rude but there are some that are.

It's a bit more to do with old New York before Giuliani cleaned the place up. Now, I suppose it still holds some rank with everyone pretty much keeping to themselves and rushing around to get to where they need to be. Really though, I suppose it's just contrast with smaller towns and such, where people can be actually friendly, bus Drivers ask you where you're going etc. I suppose, NYC is more neutral than anything else. But I think most cities in the US are like that now.

No they still are rude. Try asking this again after you've used public transportation during the morning and evening rush hour.

We aren't rude, we just are a little more in a rush and don't necessarily have the time/patience for tourists (it's nothing aganist tourists, we just usually have things to do).
