Do you think people who dress exotic, or have more than moderate piercings, or outrageous hairstyles?
Are just trying to draw attention to themselves because they are insecure about their looks or they might have low self-esteem about themselves???

i think ur right about that. a few years ago i went thru a phase where i wanted almost everything pierced and actually got alot of it done. i had an extremely low self esteem and did that because i thought it made me look better because many people these days think its 'cool'. i started to dress like a cheap hooker and after a while i wanted to shave my head but then brittany spears did it so i didnt really get into 'outrageous hairstyles' lol. after i got 1piercing people started looking at me more so i got another then another then another and ended up with more piercings than i can count on my fingers. after that some people looked at me disgusted instead of interested like they did at first and i kinda got the message. it gets addicting and after u start its hard to stop so i had to find another road to life and i got saved. since then i have only had one piercing and let that grow up after a few days. i have been much better about it since then and i have changed for the better. i know some people dont want to admit why they do the things they do but after it controlled my life and what it did to me i want others to learn from my mistakes and im not afraid to admit some of the mistakes i have made. i learned that i am a beautiful person without having metal shoved into my skin and without walking around in tops that look like my boobs are bout to fall out the top. i hope this answers ur question lol :)

I dont think you can generalize people like that. You cant say ALL people who dress like "fill in the blank" are a certain type of person. Certainly some of them may be insecure, but some of them are very secure and outgoing with huge amounts of self esteem. You cant make a judgement about a persons mentality based on nothing but hair or piercings. I have normal hair, no unusual piercings and the most exotic thing I've ever worn is a Neko kitten outfit from CoquetryClubwear.Com, (It was pretty wild I guess, but it never left the bedroom!) so from that are people deciding what kind of self esteem I have? No.

My generation went pretty far as to dress and lifestyle choices to differentiate from our parents. We did it as a visual signal that our values were different from theirs. Now our kids have to go to extremes for the same reasons. Maybe all their kids will go back the other way and dress and act like people in the 40's and 50's did.

No, they are just following the "fashion" or the "in" thing of their day. Just as the wearers of poodle skirts, beehives and flare legged jeans did.

i'm a christian and i don't show too much skin (i wear shorts and tank tops and stuff, but not stuff that lets it all hang out), and i have my ears and nose pierced, and i've dyed my hair, a LOT. even purple once.
and i don't even like attention, at all. i just like trying new things.

In a lot of cases I believe it is so...In other cases, women/men are just following the crowd
