Don't panic. First of all it is unusual for a breeder to put a dog on raw to start with as we all know that it is the more natural thing for a dog to be on and it will be very difficult to change over. Most will do it the other way around so that if the new owner wishes to keep them on complete then it will be easier.

I would absolutely say that you are going to have a much healthier dog by sticking with the raw.

Presume you are UK as I use some Prize Choice products myself. The ratios of everything is going to be fine, as prize choice do a whole range of stuff from beef chunks to chicken wings to fish etc and you can order in bulk if you wish. You can also get some raw meaty bones from the butchers.

Please give me an email and a forwarding email address and I will send you some stuff to look at. You would be able to get most of your stuff through prize choice and give your puppy all the nutrients it needs.

Vets do not do a lot of nutritional training and as they get a mark up of 40% on the bags of food sold within the UK vets surgeries then it is in their interest to try and sell it.

It is not dangerous to feed raw.

The dog will have diarrhea because of the change in food. I don't know what prize choice raw is but raw food gets digested differently than cooked, so when you switch, your dog will have the runs.

Vets are against raw because they are uneducated in canine nutrition.

Poor dog was doing well on raw meat and she is telling you to switch? If you wash your hands and wash the dishes the same way you would when you cook your human food then you will be fine. Also, after a few minutes, the enzymes in your dog's mouth clears the bacteria away from the raw meat he's eating, so you will not get sick from him licking you. Do you know how many times people get sick from salmonella and ecoli by handling kibble and not washing their hands?? Why is the vet's nurse not telling you this?

If you are going to switch him to a human-grade grain-free kibble with no by-products (no vet food!!) then during the transition also feed ground beef (cooked) and rice.. this may help thicken the poop. Also some canned pumpkin (pure pumpkin, no sugar added, no pie filling kind) can help thicken his poop up during your transition to cooked.

Raw meat and raw (not cooked) bones can be a good choice as a feeding method for your dog, however you need to learn more about canine nutritional needs before switching to an all raw diet. The percentage way of feeding raw doesn't take into consideration the different vitamin and mineral content of every protein source and it would easy to overload on one mineral, while not supplying more important minerals. The occasional raw treat would be just fine. Most dogs can handle bacteria that we can't, but make sure you wash your hands when handling your dogs raw meals.

    Keep him on the raw!

What do wolves eat? What do dingoes eat? What do stray dogs in the wild eat? What do educated dog owners feed their dogs?

    RAW MEAT!!!

Why upset your pup and take him of healthy food when you can keep him healthy and save LOTS of money.
