    Hi there.

Most of the films listed by others are not the real deal -

although "Audition" has a hell of a kick and is recommended.

I would look out the two "Death Note" movies also, very good films.

The suggestion to try anime is a good one, "Spirited Away" and "Howls moving Castle" are the best two to start with and see if you like them, the roughest of them is "Grave of the Fireflies" which gave me nightmares and is not recommended unless you like your heart turned inside-out on you.

"Urutsukidoji legend of the Overfiend" is one of the most bizarre monstrosities ever committed to film, has to be seen to be disbelieved and is an animation having NOTHING in common with the films you have listed above - a one-off experience like no other, though. You'll have to think about that one.

BUT - as a thriller fan, can I suggest some Korean movies?

Specifically, "Old Boy", "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" and "Sympathy for Mr Vengeance", the Vengeance trilogy - absolute top notch thrillers in the style you like, so very good I cannot tell you!

get them and you will love me forever!

    Enjoy, Steve.

They're asian but I'm pretty sure they're not Japanese.

    The Vengeance Trilogy

    - "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance"

    - "Oldboy"

    - "Lady Vengeance"

"Infernal Affairs" is the movie that "the Departed" is a remake of.

    Anime

    - Ghost in the Shell

    - Blood the Last Vampire

    - Akira

    - Cowboy Bebop

The 4 Anime above are in pre-production with the exception of Blood which is due for release soon (and looks desperate).

DiCaprio owns the rights to Akira and Spielburg has the rights for Ghost in the Shell.

    They are must see movies.

There's also "Ninja Scroll" "Street Fighter" "Patlabor" and many more.

There is an Anime called "Perfect Blue". One critic said that "if Hitchcock and Disney made a movie, this would be it".

The three samurai movies Yoji Yamada has directed since 2000 are excellent. They would be "Twilight Samurai", "Hidden Blade" and "Love and Honour". The last one stars Takuya Kimura. Rie Miyzawa is in the first, and Takako Matsu is the love interest in "Hidden Blade". These are the Japanese films that fill theatres in Japan, rather than become "cult" films in video stores outside Japan. If you want to see a classic Japanese film that is very accessible, try Ozu's first colour film-"Floating Weeds". It stars the Machiko Kyo and Ganjiro Nakamura, who was also a kabuki star.

    Godzilla Vs. Mecha-Godzilla.

    Terror of Mecha-Godzilla.

    Godzilla Vs. The smog Monster.

    Godzilla Vs. Megalon.

    Gozilla Vs. King Gidorah

    Godzilla 1985

    Godzilla 2000

    Godzilla Vs. Biolante

Some of the best movies made by Japan's Toho Pictures ltd. and all well worth watching.
