Well, Bob (and others)-- lets try this again...?

Think it was before last season began that Bob and I were in agreement that Jose Theodore would be one of the most improved players in the league.. Cant remember the others we listed but I think we only batted .500 on it.. LOL..

Q-- who will be the player(s) this season that will best turn around a poor/mediocre performance from last year??

Bonus-- Now that he obviously helped land Tavares, any guesses as to the lifestyle or whereabouts of the great Islanders scout- Jude??

Copas' choices-- Turco in net.. Phaneuf on D.. and the homer in me says Erat for the forward.. (still debating there)

Fire away...........

    Bonus first:

C'mon now, It was Jude that wanted that Russia-3 league D-man in the 5th round. Who? Exactly!

I think Nathan Horton rebounds from an off season in Florida and gets back over the 60 point mark. Eric Cole as well.

Maybe the Islanders get a 20 goal scorer?

Forward- I'm going to say Jonathan Cheechoo. What an awful year he had. Just keeps declining more and more, but I think he gets back up to around 25-30 goals and 55-60 points this season. It's just a gut feeling, I really can't explain this pick.

Defense- My first thought when I read this question was Wade Redden. He had an awful first half of the season and finished the season with his lowest point total(26) since his 2nd season in the NHL.(The 1997/98 season)

Under Torts he looked much much better though. I'd say he was the Rangers best defenseman after Torts was hired and into the playoffs. Still didn't put up many points, but his defense and decision making improved dramatically. I expect him to improve a lot next season.

Goalie- Osgood. Same reasons Nips gave. GAA will go back down to where it usually is and save % wont be as low as it was last season (.877)

  • Forward : 67 points isn't anything to cough/look down upon about, but not Lecavalier type numbers/not worth his contract numbers... so I'll go with him. He'll be back on track, and get back to the low 80s, high 90s IMO for point totals.

Defense : I agree with Phaneuf on this one!

Goaltender : I'm going to pull a rabbit out the hat, and say Chris Mason of St. Louis. If I'm wrong, (which there is a good chance of--also the fact Conklin is behind him), I'll go with Carey Price.

    Reg Season turnarounds?

    Goalie

Osgood... back down to like a 2.5 GAA and save% to like .910 or .915 or close to that. Rebounding from over 3GAAs and a save% under .900

    Forward

Vinny Laclavelier, could he possibly only score 67 points again? Down over 40 from 2 years previous?

    Defenseman

Gonchar has nowhere but up to go since he missed most of last season!

Redden will benefit from a TORTS system and get back to where he is accustomed.

Source(s): NOW... whoever ends up on LUBERS Fantasy team will have down seasons! Just how it goes.

Goal- Pascal Leclaire will have 30 more wins than he did last year.

Forward- Lecavalier will have 30 more points.

Defence- Meszaros will have 30 more points.

I am going to go with Ales Hemsky. I saw something in him last season...not sure how to pinpoint it, but I see something great in the guy.
