  • Whoa-- Looks like someone redecorated.. Yeah, this is a hockey Q...?

First the hockey question.. Does foot/running speed equate to skating speed? Meaning, can the fastest skaters in the NHL also be the fastest runners? Just wondered if the comparison was right. Who exactly would be the fastest skater/runner in the league today?

Also-- Been a while since I popped in and it looks like things have changed.. Lots of new names. But I also see that some of the old guard is still around, (insert subtle "how ya been" comment here)

But some things are still the same-- Homes still LOVES her coffee, LITY is still Yoda, and Bob L. is on acct #6 (dang outlaw, :P)..

So a generous hello to those who remember me, and a tip of the hat to the ones who take the time to read and answer.

And for a little something extra-- Who has Puckdats crystal ball these days?

    Thanks all..

  • The leagues "Great Experiment" or things just coming together perfectly...?

While I will be one who roots for the Phoenix Coyotes to go as far as possible in the playoffs this year; (with the exception of my personal fav team); I cant help but think how legitimate their accomplishments may actually be.. Landing Tippett was the best thing that could have happened to the Yotes and that can be called a legit move.. They positioned themselves well all the way until the trade deadline--- again; Legit.. My concern in all of this-- the acquisitions made at the deadline that have seen them challenge for the conference title.. Granted-- they are still not to the salary cap after these, but these are not typical moves that a struggling franchise makes.. They are being ran by the NHL which is the ONLY THING that would make me question "Would this be an EARNED success?"

I want this team to succeed-- I want PHX to see attendance rise-- I want to see the underdog rise up that 1 game in 100 when it counts.. But through their own earned merit..

So--- Great experiment or right guys, right place, right time??

    Just some pondering....

  • Another great Northern barrier broken-- which one will be next....?

Congrats to local Nashville product Blake Geoffrion on capturing the Hobey Baker award today.. Blake is the first player South of the Mason Dixon line to win the award.. His bloodline has ties to the northern U.S., but he is a genuine Southern raised , Non-traditional market guy that has eclipsed a huge milestone..

Which will be the next individual award to be won by a player from the Southern U.S.??

  • WOW!!!! Hudler and Radulov defecting back to the NHL for the playoff run...?

    Shocking to say the least..

Word has just come out on khl.rsa that since both Hudler and Radulovs respective teams being out of the playoff picture in the KHL; are on 3 month waivers from the Russian Superleague to return to the NHL to play for their respective teams in the playoffs..

Question is-- #1-- the shock level at the news and is this perhaps a sign more will return to stay??

Second--- Does Detroit have the cap room for Hudler??

    Thoughts????? Wow!!!!

I know Nashville has 5 countries represented --

    Suter--USA

Is there a team with 6 or more countries represented from its NHL roster??

  • Question about Olympic Hockey past and present.....?

Noticed that the benches for the Olympics look WAY longer than for NHL contests.. Did they just condense the area between the benches for better comfort or do the Olympic rosters have more players than NHL play???

Part 2-- What was the arena capacity (more over), attendance for the 1980 USA Vs USSR game??

And just for giggles--- Team USA fans-- Are you really going to be THAT disappointed if Team Canada wins Gold?? Canadian fans-- vice versa??

I remember seeing these guys when Nashville played in Vancouver.. Even our announcers were having a blast out of these guys.. Think they will make an appearance during the Olympics???

Plus---- What other event(s) or athletes outside Hockey are you watching with interest..

Speedskating (short and long track) and anything to do with Lindsey Vonn has my attention.

  • Question about the Olympics and NOT necessarily the Olympics...?

What (if any) are the rule diffences between the NHL and Olympic competition..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Olympic ice surface LARGER than that of the NHL?? If so-- whom does this benefit-- If anyone??

Finally-- the rest of the NHL.. Are the teams and players allowed to have normal organized practice like during the season, or is there some sort of halt in any club practice/scrimmages??

BQ-- Which team ends up losing out on the playoffs this year due to one of their players getting injured in the Olympics??

  • Could the Wings eventually run into a problem with all the player shuffling?

Was remembering two seasons ago in Nashvilles case, Rich Peverley was brought up and sent back a number of times during the year.. Something happened when he was sent down to the AHL that he had to get past the other teams interests in him before he could be called back to play for Nashville.. They had the cap space, but declined to pay out to Peverley because of a self-inforced cap..

Detroit is rittled with injuries and have really depleated the Griffins roster due to that..

With Detroit being assumingly much closer to the cap ceiling than NSH was, could they see the same thing with losing a player or two due to clearing re-entry? Do they have the cap space to absorb it?? Are teams allowed more call-ups due to multiple injured players and the whole thing is mute??

BQ-- Leading goalie in shutouts at seasons end??

  • Did Chicagos 2 shorthanders set a record??? Plus-- some turkey day Q's..?

Two SHG's in 27 seconds.. Thats good enough at even strength, but to do it shorthanded--- thats scary good Chuck Norris style..

Is this the record for quickest shorthanded goals??

    Extras---

How many Thanksgiving day visits are you making today??

Butterball or Wild turkey (Not the drink)???

Giblet gravy and cranberrysauce-- Yes , No, What the He ll is giblet gravy??

Kids table, big table or recliner???

Time reserved for napping-- (dammed Tryptophan)??

Special tradition at your family's Thanksgiving dinner??

    Happy Thanksgiving all!!!!!

  • Well, Bob (and others)-- lets try this again...?

Think it was before last season began that Bob and I were in agreement that Jose Theodore would be one of the most improved players in the league.. Cant remember the others we listed but I think we only batted .500 on it.. LOL..

Q-- who will be the player(s) this season that will best turn around a poor/mediocre performance from last year??

Bonus-- Now that he obviously helped land Tavares, any guesses as to the lifestyle or whereabouts of the great Islanders scout- Jude??

Copas' choices-- Turco in net.. Phaneuf on D.. and the homer in me says Erat for the forward.. (still debating there)

  • This HAS to be asked.....?

Since the playoffs are now complete, that means the beards will be a fallin... And since Pitt has the Cup, we must roast the "high and mighty" a bit..

Question--- Will Sid do a commercial like Willie Nelson did where he shaves his beard??

    Donate it to charity???

    11 AnswersHockey1 decade ago
  • Well, guess what.......?

Who's gonna win the Stanley Cup???

I mean--- sure-- Pitt just took it home yesterday, but its never too soon to start for the next...

Besides I had never asked this Q before--LMAO.. Just wanted to see what it feels like..

Hello to all the regs and newbies -- its been a while..

More of a REALISTIC question---- How are you going to cope for 3 plus months of hockey withdrawls??

BTW-- Congrats to all the REAL Pitt fans on here-- (you know who you are)

  • The Equestrian Graveyard------ (Long overdue)...?

Its playoff time--- so that means bandwagons fill to capacity, face paint sales turn slightly upward, and the opposing team, their fans and very existance suck to no apparent end..

Lets let this be a final place to beat this dead horse.. Include the team of your SCORN along with saying something you like about them or their city of residence.. By doing this it will allow frustrations to be vented and common sense to reemerge to keep us human.. A naut for a naut..

All these questions about classless fans and cities in the style of a Teeny bopper wizzing contests makes our section look like a deleted scene from Raging Bull..

Time to show why "hockey fans arent like other fans" in spite of your team being "all that" and the opponent being the spawn of Bin Laden.

Question-- who will be the leader in PIM's for the playoffs??

1-- A goal horn (different from the end of period buzzer, like those of today)

2-- When was the first time the horn was used during a game??

3-- First team to have a goal song after the horn???

And just because -- Whats the best shocker/reaction you have ever seen someone have after hearing their first goal horn blast at a game??

  • What family has the bragging rights.......Bonus...?

With the youngest Staal bro making his NHL debut in the near future, that would give this IMMEDIATE family a total of 4 currently playing in the league (barring a disaster/ injury to the others)..

Q--- What family has had the most members playing in the NHL at the same time??? Can be a combination of brothers, cousins, in-laws etc (Immediate family preferrably, i.e.-- brothers; but interesting enough knowing all family ties to the game--cousins etc)....

Bonus--- What was the name of the Nashville hockey team that Manon Rheaume once played for???

  • Can a player score in this situation......?

A player has just lost/broken his stick and must abandon it.. The same player is caught up in a breakaway moving the puck with his skates.. He cannot kick the puck in, so he slaps it in with his hand (no closing action)..

    Is this a legit goal???

Bonus---- With the Super Bowl now set, got me to thinking.. Which city has had the most sports championships from all its professional clubs (NHL, NFL, NBA and MLB) at one time in the same year???

  • Looks like he is gonna do it..... ?

In the words of Mike (Avs fan) WOOOOO-FREAKIN-HOOOO!!!!!!

Steve Sullivan is set to make his return to the ice this Saturday as the Predators face the Blackhawks.. A back injury and multiple surgeries have kept him sidelined since Feb 07.. Coach Trotz said he is looking at giving Sully 15 - 18 mins and lots of time on the Power Play..

Question 1-- How long can the "lil engine" last in the league after being out a full year??

Question 2-- Provided he has a positive return and continues to play, does he get a nod for the Masterson??

  • The name game--- hockey style...........?

Ever notice that sometimes a team would be better suited for another teams logo or team name?? The logo of the Blues and my own team of Nashville seems to be a case in point.. Music city = musical note would make sense-- ( but if it happens I will puke).. Watching football religiously for the previous 10 years makes me want to call Carolina the Panthers.. And more Hurricanes seem to hit in Florida, right??

And what's up with the Calgary FLAMES?? That place gets colder than a flagpole in Yellowknife-- Flames--- Nope...

Minnesota and Anaheim should do a unilateral name swap.. Great Duck hunting in MN, while we all know how Wild southern Cali can get..

Begs me to ask--- What teams could use another teams logo or name legitimately for the given city??

  • Best of the 2-way players.......?

While this is mainly the Defensemans biggest selling point sometimes, there are plenty of good forwards in the league that have a good defensive skill set..

Question--- Who are the best 2-way players for both offensive and defensive sides??

Sidenote-- There is 1 inch of snow in Nashville and Milk and bread are worth their weight in gold.. Winter time Freakin Rocks and Redneck truckdrivers need to try the Ice Road next year!!!! Feed 'em to Big Hugh and Alex..

BTW--- My picks are Phaneuf and Patrick Sharp
