Whoa-- Looks like someone redecorated.. Yeah, this is a hockey Q...?
First the hockey question.. Does foot/running speed equate to skating speed? Meaning, can the fastest skaters in the NHL also be the fastest runners? Just wondered if the comparison was right. Who exactly would be the fastest skater/runner in the league today?
Also-- Been a while since I popped in and it looks like things have changed.. Lots of new names. But I also see that some of the old guard is still around, (insert subtle "how ya been" comment here)
But some things are still the same-- Homes still LOVES her coffee, LITY is still Yoda, and Bob L. is on acct #6 (dang outlaw, :P)..
So a generous hello to those who remember me, and a tip of the hat to the ones who take the time to read and answer.
And for a little something extra-- Who has Puckdats crystal ball these days?
Thanks all..
Thanks Isles.. Ya- I should have put would they be the fastest at running league wide if there were to be a foot race between players..
Machinehead-- Hahaha-- True.. Just two years ago I thought we were set when we had a Fiddler and "A man named Jed" on the team..
Good analogy in the second half as well..

Lol, you gotta love seeing Tit and Leggy in the same sentence. Nashville sure is awkward with the nicknames. But hey when you got a guy named Tootoo that wears 22 no less, things are going to be awkward.
To answer your question, I'd say it's very different. Running is about moving light on the toes. Skating is striding with muscles. Runners tend to have nimble legs, while Hockey players have big lumbering legs. I like to thin of it this way; runners are like cheetahs, very light, qucik, and graceful. Hockey players on the other hand are like horses; speed through sheer power. Take Brett Gardner of the Yankees for example, arguably the fastest man in baseball. He moves nice and light on his feet which makes him very fast, but he wouldn't be able to stride very well in skates with those little twig legs of his. On the other hand take Byfuglien who can fly for his size. While his moose legs help him stride well, he'd have a hard time running on all that girth.

Hey Ol' Buddy...good to see an old face. Some are still around but there are plenty of new ones.
It looks like I stepped into a little doo-doo with three others that I will not name. I caused a catastrophe when I made a decision to not support a particular team any longer. Now I'm the embodiment of all that is evil and such. Ah well, ain't the first time, probably won't be the last.
But enough of my drama.
It's good to have you back for a visit. Hopefully you'll be around for more. I miss some of the oldies like Sens Enforcer, HABITANT, and Flames Fan Mike. Many have left, some have changed, but we'll always leave the light on.
I hope all has been well for you.
ANSWER: I don't know, but my guess would be that foot speed doesn't always correlate to skating speed. My feeling is based on the assumption that the mechanics are different. In such a case, it's again the athlete that makes the difference.

Good question. I think skating fast is way harder to do than running fast, so I am not quite sure. I know Darren Helm is the fastest skater on my team, So he would be a contender I would think. But, I dk how fast others on other teams are.
Im sorry Im not quite sure If I remember you....Im sure I have seen your Q's or answers on here, ive been here since 08, but Im still learning about NHL as a whole (Meaning, not just my Favorite team) so I dont and will not (not anytime soon) rank up the amount of points like those you have mentioned lol. Some people I've known, and those ppl know me as well. But regardless, I'll say Hello to you, and nice to have you back! :o)

1.You've been offered a choice: someone will give you two front seats to see your favorite band in concert or two tickets to you favorite NHL team's season opener (the seats aren't that great, but it's the season opener so it should still be fun!)...Which do you take? Of course! Hockey is so fun to watch at the actual game. 2. Do your evening plans tonight involve hockey? No, unfortunately. 3. What's the best game you've ever seen? Las Vegas vs. Phoenix 4. Pick one: Kovalchuk or Thornton? Thornton 5. If you were the Sens coach would you use Emery or Gerber for playoffs? Emery 6. Ryan Miller: Yay, or nay? Nay 7. If you were the Penguins GM who would you keep for a backup goalie next year? Conkblock or Dany 'I suck' Sabourin? Hmm. 8. Pronger and Chara get in a fight...who wins? I don't know who either of them are. 9. Crisotbal Huet or Carey Price? Crisotbal Huet! 10. Who would you rather get in a fight with....Derian Hatcher or Chris Simon? Neither.

I do not believe that footing/running speed equates to skating speed. Skating incorporates the adductor magnus muscle along with the gracilis muscles, where are running does not. Isn't Andrew Cogliano the fastest skater?
Coffee is yummy
Crystal Ball.....man it has been a while since I have seen that thing or Puckdat. Oddly, while there are other overly asked questions...who will win the SC....it seems that it is not as often as a topic.

Footspeed is one component. Explosive lower leg strength (power) is another component as is having a good stride, body position, and edge control.
If you want to borrow a football equivalent; a guy who can run fast in shorts and a tshirt may not be able to run fast in football equipment and he may not be able to translate that to wearing replicating while wearing hockey equipment.
More than a few fellow of us Leafs fan contingent were having some borderline hockeymancrush action on Shea Weber last Tuesday. It's meant as a compliment.

I don't think so. Skating fast has alot to do with the length of your stride and how much force you get when you push off the ice. Running is more how fast you can move your feet.
How Ya Been? I think I remember you, alot of lame questions have been on here though. I miss last season.

the endurance side of running i suppose does help but form and muscel use wise i would say that they dont really relate the stride is totally differnt i could beat my roomate in a foot race but he would kick my butt on skates... (just had a hilarious mental image of Usain Bolt in hockey skates)
Remebrence question: Welcome back man... Yea this section is deffintly different then it has been the last few seasons but most every old regular still pops on now and again.. tho i have not seen puckdat in a long long time..

I remember you. You used to be intimidating to me because you knew stuff. I am no longer that easily intimidated. Not because people know stuff, though.
Naw. Skates give a guy the advantage right from the get go. Darren Helm. H'e a speedy dude.
I agree with Homes. Coffeee good.

definitely remember you....
well, I would say the fastest guys on the ice wouldn't fair well against the fastest runners in the world...different muscles being used ... a guy like Marleau doesn't move his legs much but has such power in his stride .. but maybe a guy like Helm could run pretty fast .. Well, welcome back!
