Between what hours can credit card companies legally call you?

I was wondering if they have a time restriction like telemarketers. I am in the US and they are calls about collecting a debt not sales offers.

Thanks!

FDCPA states that they cal call you from 8am-9pm to collect on debt.... but keep in mind most of the time collection agencies are the only ones required to follow FDCPA ( fair debt collection practices act) however a lot of credit card co voluntarily follow some aspects of the act...

Leslie was partially right. Collection companies can call between 8am & 9pm, local time. That means were they are calling to, not from. You may live in California and collectors are on the phone in Ohio at 8am, but they can't call you until 11 their time. Also, a lot of states have times when the companies are legally allowed to call with autodialers. For instance, Maine does not allow autodialer calls after 5pm!

The FDCPA allows calls between 8am and 9pm. However, the FDCPA only applies to third party collection agencies. Original creditors are not bound by the same rules.

I think I recall hearing on Suze Orman that it is from 8am to 9 pm.
