How can I stop my halogen light from turning itself off?

I have a 90's style halogen floor light I have used for a long time. Now it will randomly turn itself off when it gets too hot? It never did this before.....could it be getting too hot and how can I prevent it from turning off? A small glass shield did break off the lightbulb a few years ago and could never be replaced...could that be the problem?

dude get rid of that heat lamp.

it puts out a descent lumen output but is not energy efficient.

the halo bulb is contained to keep the temperature within a certain range

    1) replace the bulb everytime it happens

    2) replace the fixture with a standard bulb type fixture/

then if you have to have yellow light use a 60w incandescent bulb

if you like bright cool lighting, use a 14w compact flourescent bulb

the halogen globes have a safety in them after time they will switch off and also not be as bright these go for bulbs like high pressure sodium and metal hidrate all gas filled.

    buy a new one cheers

Why the hell don't you tell us the year, make and model so at least we have an idea if you have a circuit board type socket set up or an old style twist in bulb with wiring? Perhaps you bought the wrong bulbs!!!

you better stop using it, they have been known to get too hot and cause fires. A long time ago, they recalled some of them (old ones) - anyway, I had to get rid of mine because it kept getting hot and one night it started smoking and burnt off some of the wiring. It's pretty scary.
