How do you disarm an attacker without getting shot in the process?
Supposing you are facing an attacker with a handgun and you are certainly going to get shot, and you might as well try something rather than be gunned down without putting up a fight, just what can you do?
I saw a tutorial video on YouTube that showed the defender grabbing the gun with two hands and twisting the butt of the gun quickly upwards in a way that is supposed to painfully break the attacker's index finger in the guard (with all the pain and surprise that would give allowing further self defensive movements) but it really looked as all that would achieve would be to fire the gun in the defender's gut.
What can one do? What is a good and effective disabling sequence so that one can get away safely?

Run--Not to promote cowardice, but the odds are in your favor. 1. That the shooter will still shoot. 2. That the shooter will hit you. 3. That the hit would be fatal. This comes from police officers who say that once you surrender yourself in a kidnapping situation, the odds of staying alive are really bad.
Assuming you can't run. . . I've heard to. . .
Chop at the persons hand (but I mean chop like you want to break is arm in half). A. you stun his arm severely or B. he pulls the gun down (thus not pointed at you).
Consider these as well if your wrestling with the gun.
You may be able to temporarily disengage the firearm.
Pulling the slide back even 2mm's will often disengage semi autos.
Drop the mag-atleast he's now got one shot left that maybe you can shoot off in a safer direction.
Release the drum in most revolvers.
Get your hand between the hammer (if gun has one) and the frame.
Get your finger behind the trigger (if it is a narrow trigger).
If your fighting someone for a gun. Take advantage that they are desperate to maintain possesion of it. Use this to try to expose their body/groin/face to your knee strikes and punches.
For lifting a firearm up may get them to try to lift it up and away from you as well--exposing their whole mid section to a forceful knee.
Whatever you do, you must not hesitate and you must put all your might into it. You either put distance between you two or you get right into his personal space. If you grab the gun, but have your butt sticking way back, all he has to do is jerk backwards and his gun is now aimed at your center mass.

There is nothing you really can do except grab the gun and hope you're fast enough to do it without getting shot. Make sure you push the gun to the outside of your body to increase your odds.
If, somehow, you manage to survive that far, there is no magic combo for disarming your attacker. Everything past that is point is going to pretty much be chaos, so I hope you paid attention in karate class.

don't look into his eyes, apparently your pupils give away what your about to do like a split second before your going to do it, quickling redirect the gun and move out of the way at the same time, get out of the line of fire by twisting your hips and body not by stepping to the side,
direct the gun towards him or if you can gain control of the gun
also be fast and aim for pressure points, groin, eyes, throat don't be afraid to dig fingers in eyes, its him or you

I blow his f***ing head off before he gets the drop. In short, I give him a formal introduction to Mr. H and Mr. K They are "high caliber" guys. LOL Otherwise, I close my eyes and hope the guy is a bad shot or that it doesn't hurt too much.

am i armed or unarmed? If I am armed, i shoot first, and see who is the fasted gun in this here parts, if I am unarmed, I will try to grab his weopon and pull his arm up in the air so if he fires, the buillet goes off into the air and not into me. and then I kick him in the gahonnies and then I but his in the head with my helmet and see what he has left if anything, (i I havebn't blacked myself out with my helmet) and then if the I can grab the weopon, I shoot him and worry about my first klill later.
BUT YOU KNOW THIS IS NOT REALITY, THE TERRORISTS IN IRAQ ARE WHIMPS AND JUST USE IED'S INSTEAD OF FACING US!!! THEY PUT TH EIED'S IN THE ROAD AND THEN GO RUN AND HIDE, LIKE A BUNCH OF WHIMPS!!!!
