The test strip was probably not wrong. It is very possible to get to 44. My lowest reading to date was 36. I can't tell you what the symptoms are as I don't have any. It isn't until I start seeing spots that I know I am low. Going low can be more dangerous then being high. Talk to your doctor if you start experiencing lows on a regular basis. You might need a medication adjustment if you are on meds. Also I have heard that eating a low GI snack before going to bed will help prevent lows at night. That might be worth a try to you. Best of luck to you.

of course it is!! YOU are living proof!
Most people will remain alive at 44, but, as you noticed, they will have prominent symptoms. No, the test strips were not bad.
Most people FIRST experience a sense of "nervousness" or agitation. Blurred vision is common. This generally happens when the blood sugar readings 60-75.
If untreated, the symptoms will progress to a feeling of "being disconnected", like being drunk or "on drugs". This generally occurs between 50-65. This will progress to mental confusion, and possibly to an inability to control your own actions, generally in the 45-50 range
If the blood sugar gets too much lower (like less than 40), you will faint. if EMERGENCY treatment is not provided, you will slip into a coma and die.
But each person is an individual. Some people can stand a blood sugar much lower, and others get early symptoms when blood sugar readings are in the 80's
So train yourself to look for the early symptoms -- inability to concentrate, nervousness, vision problems -- the GO EAT SOMETHING!

You can definitely go that low. I have been in the 30s before, and I have never passed out from low blood sugar.
You need to try to prevent that from happening again, whether it is by eating a snack late at night or by adjusting your medication.

I've seen 29 and still here to tell you about it. Symptoms are sweating, feeling shaky, dizzy, hungry and sometimes similar to being drunk. One night I went so low I was sleep walking and woke up on the floor, shirt soaked in sweat and too shaky to get up for quite some time luckily my liver kicked in and gave me some gloucose. I don't know how low I was but was 155 when I woke up for work the next day and never did get any juice or something to eat.
