Avast...it has 7 on-line scanners to keep you safe...when most paid versions only have 3 or 4 at the most and you have to pay extra to upgrade...I do alot of answering questions...at the most common complaints come from AVG and Norton anti-virus products., and before i signed up to get an account here on Answers and Questions my Norton 2009 anti-virus let to many infections in...so today i have Avast backed-up with Malwarebytes anti-malware and Super anti-spyware which are all free home editions unless you want to upgrade which is not necessary....in 4 months all these products have done a wonderful job keeping my computer safe...all threats have been dealt with and handled....these programs rock !!!!

AntiVirus alone does not provide complete security and protection.

AntiVirus programs only detect malware, they don't prevent attacks before they start, protect your wireless connection, or prevent viruses from entering your PC.

I recommend one of these products:

    1- Comodo Internet Security :

Firewall + AntiVirus + Live Security Expert + Wi-Fi Security

You can buy it for $39

    Download it from: http://esyurl.com/g97

    AVG Internet security 8.5:

    * Includes Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Spam, Firewall and LinkScanner

    * Real-time security while you surf and chat online

    * Top-quality protection that does not slow your system down

    * Free support and service around the clock and across the globe

You can have it for $44.99

    Download it from: http://esyurl.com/ghw

    Kaspersky Internet Security 2010:

This new solution from Kaspersky Lab combines anti-virus protection with a personal firewall and an anti-spam filter. Kaspersky Internet Security keeps your PC free from malicious code, adware, spyware, hacker attacks, dialers, spam and network fraud.

You can have it for $59.95

    Download it from: http://esyurl.com/ghx

    Kaspersky Anti-Virus or ESET NOD32.

If you are after a suite, Kaspesky Internet Security 2010 is *very* good. In fact, it includes one of the strongest personal firewalls available. See: http://www.matousec.com/projects/proactive-securit... (respected independent firewall tests).

If you are after just an anti-virus on it's own (not in a suite), Kaspersky Anti-Virus or ESET NOD32 are both very good. NOD32 was named 'AV of the Year' in 2006 and 2007 by av-comparatives.org; and it came a very close second in 2008. Reportedly it has also scored the most VB100 awards. NOD32 is fast, light and effective.

    In order of preference,

    Free ones:

    1) Avira

    2) Avast

    3) AVG

    Paid:

    1) Kaspersky

    2) Nod32

    3) Bitdefender

    4) Mcafree

    5) Norton

If you want detailed stats regarding their efficiency, go to www.av-comparatives.org for their latest testing on a number of security products. They base their views on scanning efficiency, heurustics analysis and false positives.
